can't stop object desktop from starting up

Please be more specific.
Are you talking about the splash screen at start-up, or a specific program (Object Desktop is a group of programs).
If you are talking about the splash screen, you can start Stardock Central, go to "Tools > Settings > deselect the "enable MCP smart startup" option > click "OK".
Note - "sdmcp.exe" is needed by ObjectDock for the SystemTray functions (and perhaps some parts of DesktopX). Disabling MCP smart start may cause issues, so reenable if things get a bit weird.
I run WindowBlinds, IconPackager, and ObjectDock (without SystemTray docks) with "MCP smart startup" option disabled - and have not had an issue.
