What is the benefit to getting DesktopX Pro over Standard?

Friday, April 22, 2005 by STarMan | Discussion: New Users

I have been trying DesktopX and I like it, but I am wondering which version to buy. Is "Export objects as stand alone programs" the only difference between the Standard and the Pro version? Are there some Objects that will only run with the Pro version? Any info would be great...

Thanks

As far as I know, yes that's the only difference....... with Pro you can export as Gadgets, which means anyone can run them, even if they don't have DX installed on their computer.

I believe so. You should only get pro if you are going to distribute something to somebody who doesnt have DX. If you want to just use DX and download themes and objects from here and create them and upload them here then Standard would be all you need. (Starndard comes as a part of ObjectDesktop.)

Yes, and you are licenced to sell it as long as it's not a desktop solution and everything is your own work.

I want to thank everyone for their input. That helps out a lot. I think the Standard is probably the one for me.

Thanks...

Tominated: it's a pretty powerful feature though. A Gadget can run on any system. They don't even need DX installed to run them. I think that's worth an extra 50$.

Tominated... it's not stupid in the least. WIth the Pro version, you could create a mini application that people find useful. You could sell it for as little as 5 bucks, and if you sold only 15 copies, you'd come out ahead....... but what if you sold 1000?

For most of us, Standard is all we need, but the Pro version is a fantastic deal for programmers.
