customize microsoft office icons

Tuesday, April 19, 2005 by infedl2k4 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have been trying to change the icons in microsoft office (ie... word,excel,etc...)when i right click on the icon and go to properties and the shortcut tab the "change icon" button is fadded out. I also tried to change them in ICON PACKAGER but they are not there. Does any body have any idea how to fix the problem or know about the regedit?

Thanx in advance

infedl,

The only way I know of to change the office icon in the "Start Menu > All Programs" list, would be to create a new shortcut on the desktop to the ".exe" for the program you want (right-click desktop > New > Shortcut > Browse to the ".exe" > Finish), and then modify the icon image.

Then place the new shortcut icon in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs" (where "C" is the letter drive).

You can then delete the original icon from the list if you want.

Note - if you have the Office CD, you can always do a "Detect and repair" to recreate all the default settings and icons.

I hope this helps.

If you don't already have it, you can download TweakUI http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx and use it to get rid of those annoying little shortcut arrows.
