How do you remove recycle bin from desktop?

Hi i been wondering how do you remove recycle bin from desktop?

This procedure will affect all accounts on the computer.
For Windows XP, create a Group Policy as follows:
At a command prompt, type: gpedit.msc
This will open the group policy dialog.
Open - "User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Desktop" and double-click the "Remove Recycle Bin Icon From Desktop" policy, then select "Enabled".
Close out and reboot the computer.
Note - your deleted files will continue to collect in the Recycle Bin. To view contents - open "My Computer" and go to "Tools>Folder Options>View tab" > select "Show hidden files and folders" > deselect "Hide protected operating system files" > click "Apply".
Recycle Bin can be found in "C:\Recycler" (where "C" is the letter drive).
To return Recycle Bin to the desktop, just reverse the procedure.

When i type gpedit.msc in command prompt it says "'gpedit.msc' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
what do i do?

gpedit.msc is only available with XP Pro - XP Home does not have the group policy editor

You can use a third party like TweakUI to remove and replace the recycle bin, or you can use the link left by GhoS above to delete the value in the registry (to perform that one you will type: "regedit" without the quotation marks in the Run commmand to open the registry editor.)
If you are comfortable with editing the registry, you can use that method. If you do, I suggest going here Link, and printing out the procedure for repairing the Recycle Bin registry value, if you want to put it back on the desktop in the future.
The other option is to hide the desktop icons - or use a program like DesktopX to hide the desktop icons and create objects for shortcuts you may want on the desktop.
