HELP!

I am looking to start trying to make a couple wallpapers and possibly a couple skins. My problem is I don't have anywhere near enough money for photoshop (or really anything else for that matter). So basically what I'm tryin to say is... Does anyone know where I can find a free version of photoshop or anything equivelant to it? I know photoshop has a trial version, but I don't want to spend the hours (on dial-up) to get it only to have to stop using it after a few days. Any help will be appreciated.

Paint Shop Pro is much cheaper than Photoshop and you can achieve excellent results with it.

It's the preferred open source image editor.
Meaning it's free!
