DesktopX 3 pro Builder Crashes, even after Reboot
Thursday, March 17, 2005 by matthiasr | Discussion: DesktopX
After installation of Desktopx 3 i was able to run DesktopXBuilder. I then opened the widget "Barney.exe". All was fine so far. But as i opened properties of the widget DesktopXBuilder crashed. Restart of windows did not help.
A new reinstall of desktopx did not help also.
I then uninstalled DesktopX, removed all Stardock Folder under program files and under program files/common files.
Then i installed desktop X again and all worked fine... , until i open a widget and try to open its properties.
DesktopX Builder crashes again.
The windows xp problem report (don´t know how its called in english, i mean the program, which sends information to microsoft after a crash) tells me
Problem signature
AppName: desktopx builder.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: user32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1617 Offset: 0002fdac
My sysgem is:
Windows XP SP1 german
Hardware:
Centrino 2.0GHz
1GB Ram
ATI Radeon Mobil
Any ideas.
Best regards,
Matthias Rebbe

I found out, how to get rid of the crashes. Believe it or not: I renamed the german language file, so desktop builder could not load it ( i have a german version of XP running). Now DesktopBuilder comes up with a message, that desktopx exited not correctly and if i want to load an empty desktop.
No crashes anymore.

i can reproduce this as often as i want. If i rename the german language file back and set my preferences to german in desktop builder, than DesktopBuilder crashes again if i enter properties of a loaded widget. And after that, i cannot load DesktopxBuilder again.....
Sounds strange, but its true. Don´t know, whats wrong with the german language file. I opened it in ultraedit, all seems ok. I even changed the german umlaute ä ö ü to ae oe ue, but its the same.
But at least, i found a solution.
Greetings,
Matthias
