Network card on my laptop

For some reason, for a while now, it has this really weird problem.
Right now, it has 2,130,000,000,000 approx packets sent and 759 packets recived. Why does it happen? No, my switcher is not consantly flashing so it's not due to some virus or spyware.
In a short time while I'm typing this, it's now approx 2,178,000,000,000.
Either I has some insanely fast connection or I has some major network problem.

Nah it's wired NIC and it don't really work anymore now. I can't connect to my server with NIC. In least I can still use wireless, which DON'T have that weird problem.
I guess it was breaking down NIC card. Can I replace it on Toshiba satellite 1903-303?

Well I changed it to fixed IP and it works now, but still has those trillions of packets sent.

Lantec, the widgets shouldn't have anything to do with packets being sent. Do you have any widgets open that use the internet?

I have Sysmetrix running with the weather & network monitored. With the stealth version I don't have any problems but the WSS version sometimes seems to be the cause of a constant ping on the upload side. It's intermittent, and I'm not sure of the trigger, but if I close the widget it stops.

You don't have anything enabled that might just be sending loads of broadcast packets onto the network that really aren't going anywhere do you?
Try downloading a packet sniffer like ethereal http://www.ethereal.com and see what type of traffic it is and where it's going. Might help you track down and eliminate the cause.

That's so odd.
So far, the packets sent number is now in trillions. The packet capture, both ways, is at 30,000 which makes more sense.

Sounds weird, maybe you should try plugging the network card into another PCMIA slot of your laptop and downloading the latest drivers. Anyway if that doesn't work then you can just show off to your friends on how fast your new prototype network is.

Besides my wifi network is heavily protected, but my laptop is connected via 100baseT network.

Use ComView..to know exactly what is being sent and being receive...then you`ll know the source....

IF the computer is trying to connect to a network that is managed, say a corporate or university network, your MAC address has been blocked by the network for suspicious network traffic (ie a virus) and needs to be reenabled by the admins. I work for a university and have seen this problem often.

Huh? My problem is not related to being blocked from other sites. Problem is 10 trillion packets SENT and only 100k packets received, and ethereal don't see any of those extra packets. I suspect something related to counting packets is messed up.
