For beginners (like me) scripting can be daunting. I personally can't do it from scratch. I have found that looking at other scripts most useful. I've been playing/learning with some & it helps. I don't know scripting, but usually I can find one that I can at least adapt (with trial & error). Sometimes I have to look at 2-3 to figure out what is needed. I believe (& for the record, I am never wrong - just misinformed) most of the folks here allow you to use their scripts since most basic ones can be written by anyone who knows how -- an email request to the creator/scripter would be the best way to go. If you get permission, give credit.

Hopefully, a scripter will read your post & give a decent answer (that I can use too).

If you use Stardock Central you can go to the Object Desktop download and install Desktop X2. The Desktop X Documentation includes a scritping guide. It should be a PDF file located in the Docs directory under DesktopX. Of course there are people like Martin Conroy who you could email with any specific questions.

Whoops, forgot about the scripting guide being included... like i said i can't script.

Martin's good. He's the one I had a message to email once... I ran one of his weather widgets & a little box popped up and said I had discovered new weather & I needed to tell Martin. Puzzled & freaked me at the same time LOL... new weather?

Thanks for the reminder of the guide.

Here's the MS link for java and vb script guides (DX uses either one)
Also, there are a couple of scripting walkthroughs in the "Articles" section by Brad. The DX guide will show you DX specific things and the link below will show you all the rest. It's all good
