Privately contacting authors?

Saturday, January 29, 2005 by Bebi Bulma | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues

Is there a way to privately contact someone on here? I've noticed there isn't a pm function here on the forums, and I don't see any emails listed for anyone in the user profiles (nor on the personal wincustomize sites). It would be nice if emails were listed in the profiles so that there would be a means of contacting someone privately.

I think showing the emails is being worked on. For now your best bet is to post a thread to the attention of the author you want to contact or go to his page and leave a message in the guestbook.

okay heres my ideal stardock could contact you when somebody wants some thing they would be the median between the two and no one would need to know the e-mail except Stardock and everyone would have the option to use or not use this option and it should be this button on your site it would work similar to you being notified on you watch list. I think this could even be used as a learning tool to educate the community threw correspondence, a one on one for those who dont mind when ask for help

Well if it was posted on the forums or a guestbook it wouldn't be private.

They are still working on the site. Some things are missing all around. As they work the bugs out of certain things, they will be activated. Keep in mind, this is a gigantic overhaul of the site.

Authors could do what I did...in my about/guest book page, the first entry is by me and I have my email address there...has worked fine so far, anyone that has need to contact me has been able to do so!

I feel the overhaul and the bugs should have been worked out before the new site took over. Be that as it may a PM system would be VERY helpful on this site.

Yea, a PM system would be nice. Plus the user has the ability to block certain nicks if someone got on their nerves as a protection. Plus only registered members can PM. I think that's a good idea kona

Well at www.skinning.net we have a PM system that works great. Really wish we had that here.

A PM system has been discussed and may be added at a later date. Kona, you must remember that this site is custom written and not some template you plug your graphics into. I don't mean to imply that those template based sites are inferior, but it is an apples to oranges comparison. More features will come with time. Many web site bugs don't present themselves until you have a few thousand people hitting the site every second.

As for contacting authors, you may be able to find their email address inside the skin file in some cases. WindowBlinds skins, for example, have a place for the authors email address, as do many other applications.
