How to get higher size of icons?

Saturday, January 29, 2005 by zubutix | Discussion: Icons

Hi!

My little problem is that i dont know how i change the iconsize to more than 48x48pix!
I have icons up to 128x128pix. But my desktop only shows up to 48x48.

How do i (if its possible?) make the changes? And where?

Thanks!

To my knowledge, Windows can't display anything higher than 48x48 on the Desktop.

However, you can use IconX https://www.stardock.com/products/iconx/download.asp , which is part of the Object Desktop suite https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/ to have enlarged icons on your desktop.

This program also allows you to apply cool effects like magnification on mouseover and sound effects to your icons.

That was the fastest reply ever!

THANKS MAN!!!

sad though that 48x48 is the largest. I got so impressed when i saw a screenshot of a dude who had LARGE icons on his desktop. I want to have like 4-5 BIG icons to the left and make a wallpaper with bigger text to the right (with say 30% alpha) who describes what the icon represents (i.ex INTERNET) With some streamlined graphics that goes all way across the desktop incorporates only the icon... hm, hard to explain. swedish you know.

anyway. thank you vary mucho!

Hiya zubutix.....IconX will do both for you....jumbo icons and text to the right. No need to make a wall with the text on it.

Thank you too SE!!

I have test IconX and it exactly what i want. Only problem i got now... or 2 problems actually, is that i need more ram (only got a broken 256mb ) and a bigger monitor! This is the first time i have this low ram but i got the comp for free. And my monitor is a 17" only. To play with customizers i think at´least a 19" is needed. Preferablly a 21-23"

bye

I was also wondering the same thing and found windowfx, it also makes the desktop icons larger. It seems both windowfx and iconx do this, but which one is better? I don't really need all the other features, just want the desktop icons large. Would iconx be more appropriate or should I just stick with windowfx?

I have shied away from FX in the past because of resource usage and stuck with IconX when I wanted huge icons on my desktop. I don't know if things have changed or not with FX. Also, I believe that IconX gives you more options when setting desktop icons, since you can set specific settings for all four states of an icon and it's label...normal, mouseover, selected, selected and mouseover. If you are also using DesktopX, I'd probably go with IconX since the configuration of it is within the same menu.

Thanks for that Essencay. I'm not using desktopx but I'm gonna give iconx a whirl.

IconX is nice because you can force your icons to be as big as you want!! (almost anyway without being pixelized). But i forced a 128x128pix icon to 140x140pix and they are still BEAUTIFUL! And you can put the icontext where you want. doesnt have to be under the icon with iconX. You can also customize whats going to happen when you click the icon like make it bigger/smaller or/and change color.

fun fun
