Personal Icon and Nickname meaning

Friday, January 21, 2005 by Sleeping Dragon | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Well I gotta tell ya, some of these personal icons are awesome. Jinn Fizz and Stupendous Man are two of my favorites. I'm interested in the meaning behind them. To some it just looks cool, to some there may be some history. Also, I think I know why BoXXi's is a box, but I don't know why he's BoXXi. What makes Corky_O Corky? Why does butch have a 123 and a motorcycle? What's a Jafo? Why did sbgFX kill the Spyder?

So if you got a minute, tell us why you chose your nickname and what, if anything, your icon represents.

I won't go first this time. Someone else.

BTW. I'm not sure Sir B is a real troll-- there are instances of him being nice, even helpful, on certain threads-- right here, in this forum!

I've explained my nick countless times before so I won't do it here. The icon...well it's kind of self-explanatory really. It's my eye, duh.

Although i wasn't asked why my nick is Sphynx(i don't consider Great as part of my nick), i guess i'd jump in the bandwagon and explain it.

Originally conceived, it was supposed to be Sphinx. I decided to change i to y to add a little fancy on the name (not realizing that sphynx is a domestic cat). Sphinxes in Egyptian mythology, are guardians, creatures of wisdom, strength and nobility. The modern-day meaning of the word is "an enigmatic, mysterious person" which is at some times i am. Aside from the fact that the word conveys some of my personality, i also fancy Sphinxes ever since i heard of the story of Oedipus (the Riddle of the Sphinx). So there. The avatar is an SD rendition.

my nickname represents my attitude towards life. i try to make everything fun and relaxed.

i was thinking about my icon. what would represent me best. so i came up with not an original idea and put my pic for my icon. i know it's boring but represents me best.

An 'eventhorizon' is the edge of a black hole, the 'point of no return' after which something passes (be it light, gases from a nearby star, or your spaceship ) it is lost forever.

And of course, the avatar is just an E and an H.

I wanted to know, Sphynx, as I want to know about all of the people here. I just used a few examples in the post. Thanks, and the name suits you.

My nick began with language plays such as spoonerisms, made popular by the Brit TV show "The Two Ronnies", where words are sort of turned frack to bont.....the first letter of my Christian name is dropped and replaced by the first 2 of my surname to make a real word or name....the 'ers' was added after an embarrassing but funny incident. One night my first wife and I were laying in bed when we heard some ghastly sounds coming from our cat outside the front door. I wasn't concerned, but my wife hit the panic button and told me to hurry in rescuing the 'endangered' feline. Now who was I to agrue with such concern and AUTHORITY(she had that I'm in charge here, or else look in her eye), so I ventured to investigate the disturbance. Upon slightly opening the door, I could see the cat, seemingly making a racket for the sake of it, and I gestured it inside to check it over....it didn't respond (cats are like that) so I stepped onto the porch to pick it up, the door hit me in the arse, slammed shut and locked me out......stark naked. Needless to say, much to my greater embarrassment when she repeatedly related the 'embellished' story to anyone who'd listen, my modified Christian name suddenly acquired a suffix to commemorate the occasion.

As for an avatar, not that I'm up to making one as yet, but I'm thinking a Buddah-like caricature....something to represent my nick and increased girth over the ensuing years.....just a bit concerned about the nudity aspect, though

My nick is derived from the nick given me by my uncle the day he first aid eyes on me (I was a newborn and he was 12 years old...god that was ages ago)...He called me Betty Boop and that's what I've answered to ever since! Something to do with chubby cheeks and having a first name of Betty...No not Elizabeth.....just Betty. Am named after my mom's two best friends. Added the "ish" just because!!! My avatar is an SD creation . Ps..have called my uncle "googlie" since I was a wee thing, and still do to this day. Guess it gave his mates a few laughs when he was serving overseas in the '60's...imagine...amember of the Canadian Engineers...and getting letters addressed to Lt. Googlie Reynolds!!!!!

I think the staff here at wincustomize should have a photo and avatar of themselves dressed in the same, proper uniform.

The story behind my nickname is a long-alcohol-enduced one (I get a hang-over every time I remember )
The 67 is the year I was born. The avatar is the logo of my self-entitled theme

Great story. Most likely the cat was irritated at the bother.

I envision an avatar that shows someone mooning with a screen door pattern imprinted on the bum.

Double Zero?? If I told you I would have to kill you... LoL that is a short and not so sweet explanation of the nick...There is a bit more to it but unimportant really...

As for the avatar, just something I threw together because it seemed like the thing to do...
