Hobbies, or is this it?

Saturday, January 15, 2005 by Sleeping Dragon | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Ok, I know that most of you tinker with computers as a hobby of sorts. To some it is an obsession that occupies all of their spare time. To some it is more than an obsession and it occupies all of their awake time. Hopefully, though, there are some of us that have other interests other than what we are sitting in front of right now. So in the interest of getting to know the WC community better, what are your hobbies? What occupies your time when you are not doing this computer thing?

I am single and have no kids, so in the summer I boat and fish often. In the winter I cook, eat, lift weights and look forward to summer.
I also have a couple of 55 gallon fish tanks loaded with african cichlids.

You?

Thanks, Cordelia. It is nice to put some other activities along with people's pretend-a-names (sleeping dragon. Please!!).
I have a bit in common with many of you. I have a love of motorsports, played in a steel dart league for years, love movies and video games, of course music, took Tae Kwon Do as a kid, Hapkido as a teenager, Shotokan Karate and HakkoRyu Jujitsu as an adult. No black widow but have been a cat fanatic at times. Collected comic books for many years until Guardian died (Alpha Flight), created and tended a Japanese Rock Garden (more of an estate) for years including an abundance of acers and orchids, worked on a horse farm with polo ponies for about 5 years (anyone asleep yet?), love to eat, drink tea and coffee, and I sleep occasionally (3-4 hours a night with a dragon nap here and there), and I love the Lord with all my heart. Read about a novel a week, too.

My Point? People are so different and so alike. We are a world away from each other and enjoy so many of the same good things in life.

.....nuff said (at least by me).

I am somewhere close to 40, a single dad raising two wonderful boys, which seems to involve lots of driving, grocery shopping, laundry and dishes. And laundry. And dishes. And more grocery shopping, which leads to more dishes......well, you see the pattern.
I do love to cook, though. I used to paint and draw, do a little photography (used to develop my own film and process my own prints back before film was an antique)
In the summer I coach my son's little league baseball team, and ride my bike.
I also spend way too much time obsessing over tweaking my computer.

Other than skinning, I enjoy reading ... just finished the final Dark Tower book, gardening ... just a few vegetables in the Spring/Summer in a small raised bed, grilling just about anything edible while hanging out on my patio with a cold one, and watching my 5 year old grow up.

Time with my wife is always good, going out/staying in, whatever the mood takes... some skinning as and when. Rest of the time is spent training. Martial Arts have been my life since I was 4 (now 27) and have trained in as many styles as I can (Kyokushin Kai Karate, Kung-Fu, Taekwon-do, Judo, Freestyle/Mixed Martial Arts, various weapon style inc Bushido etc).

Nice to see others into the same sort of stuff which has been apart of my life for as long as I remember.

Other than skinning I enjoy:

  • Reading Calvin and Hobbes books
  • Watch TechTV
  • Other reading (LOTS of other reading...)
  • Play MS Plus! Games (I like The Labyrinth the best)
  • OBSESSED with tweaking the computer.....
  • Sending Email
  • Eat
  • Drink. Drink. Drink. I like to drink milk. Belch.
  • I have a Calico Fantail fish in a 10- gallon tank and a blue Beta in a vase.
  • Right now exploring the woods in snowshoes in our back yard through our at least foot of snow after the blizzard yesterday.
  • Play with HTML code.

Well, with a wonderful wife and a bouncing-off-the-walls 15 month old son, there isn't much time for a whole lot. When the boy sleeps, I do some skinning, housework, (I'm a stay at home dad, along with an at-home job) and watch Sci Fi movies. I have a gigantic Star Wars toy collection, which along with computers makes me an uber-dork. But I also love those New England Patriots! Mostly I just love living, and doing everyday things with my family, and spending some time doing art work to please all you freaks! (LOL, JK)...

Okay here goes, Ive been watching this thread for a while so............
I am a newbie here at wc. Been comming here for a littel over a yr.I love fasinating new themes that are unique and different and options. So I'm here and hooked. My four sons have all grown up and left home the youngest 2 wks ago into the army says he going to be a air borne ranger. Its just Maw and Me in this very quiet house. There is tv and the computer so I'm here most of the time after work and before bed. I like bass fishing, there is nothing like have a 8.lbs. Bass busting out of the water with your lure in his mouth and trying to anticapate his move so you dont lose him. I live 6 miles from the boatramp and 3 minutes from a good fishing spot sort of on the lake and I like horseback riding. Been raised on one ever sense I can remember. My wife and I have been married for 24yrs now and if you havent figured it out she is called Maw by all immediate famialy. I've seen my boys get married 2 of them and have 2 Grand daughters 4 yrs. and one almost a yr. and a half, the other 2 sons to soon to tell. GEEMAW has a blast with her grand daughters (since we had all boys) and they like there poppie. I alsolike hightech stuff as long as it works. Well thats about it for me any more I would be writing a letter and I havent done one them in a long time guess I'm going to have to get use to it with my son in the service and all .
Well thats my story and I'm Sticking to it!

My hobbies?

Apart from skinning, mostly music related - played the piano for about 34 years and the organ at the local church for about 24 years (not non-stop by the way...), conducted the orchestra and done the musical director job at the local operatic society for the last 7 years (they keep asking me back - desperate fools!), I've been married for 15 years and have two kids (13 and 8) and a cat.

My other hobby is worrying about money, and whether really I'm no good at anything and people are just being nice...
