Maxthon Browser

Has anyone here tried this browser that's based on IE6? Looks like it adds a lot of features that I thought were only available in Firefox like tabs and it's skinnable. The one thing that has held me back from really trying out Firefox is losing the personalized settings in IE Favorites. Thanks

I have been using Maxthon (Was MYIE2) For a very long time. I find it the best browser I have used (I have tried everyone I could find). It is very EASILY customizable (MUCH easier than Firefox) stock and with added plugins there isn't anything I want to do that I can't! Tab function variations include setting up Groups of URLs that open all at once. For instance, I have a WinCustomize Group that opens The Home page, Gallery, Forums, And my skins page in their own tabs all at once. I haven't even mentioned the skins. The Link above has great ones, but there are others. I have made many skins to match WindowBlind skins by simply cutting and pasting icons. (Example of Thunder Storm below) As you can see this is a can't beat feature of Maxthon -- It supports WindowBlind Themes!!!! Skins can use all of the WB features except the Toolbar icons, but there are so many good skins the chooses are endless, and again through simple cut and paste... It does use the IE engine, but with the built-in Popup blocker, Active X filer Etc. It is as safe as IE can be. The developer is working on a version that uses the Mozilla engine it seems promising. I could go on and on, but using is believing.

Yeah, used MyIE for a while too. It's a good tabbed IE interface. Slimbrowser is decent too. BUt now that I've tasted Firefox, nothing could make me go back. Man do I love Firefox, the more I use it the more I love it. What I love the most is it's modular concept with the extensions; it's basically "build the browser you want".

Maxthon is the only thing I use now. I was going to try out FireFox but after I heard there were some pages and features that FireFox couldn't work with, I decided "if it ain't broke, why change it?".

Well, I hadn't played around with it too much, just off and on. After reading DPG's post I thought I would give it a bit more of a try. I am hooked. The groups thing is amazingly cool. With one click I can have all the WC sites I check every time I come here open immediately. With one click I can have my blog, the JU forums, and some of my favorite other blogs open all at the same time. Wow. This is cool.

I used to use MyIE/Maxthon but have used Firefox exclusively since about version .6 . Its got everything I need. Maxthon to me is too loaded with stuff I don't need. With Firefox I can load those things I'll make use of, plus many things that aren't available for Maxthon (such as weather in the status bar). You can setup groups with Firefox as well using an extension since someone mentioned about Maxthons ability to do that.
Understandably Firefox can't access windows update and does have problems with some sites, but overall Firefox simply works better for me.

Love the group tabs and the ability to rename them Didn't care for the first time I went to Favorites. Favorites weren't set for single column in Maxthon's Options and my favorites overflowed the screen. Guess it's time to do a little housekeeping again. It doesn't use IE's personalized favorites and as far as I can tell it doesn't use any of the new security features SP2 added...haven't really browsed much with it though. I think between the recent favorites and the group tabs, I'll be able to work around the personalized favorites.

Found this feature by accident...when you move (you don't have to click) your mouse pointer up to the tabs bar, you can scroll through all your open windows with your mouse wheel

You can also hold ctrl and hit tab to browse through the tabs. I really like the drag n drop you can do on links. If you click and hold a link and drag it a little to either side and release it, the link will open in a new tab. You could also hold shift down and click a link, same result.

I have had it so long that I am not sure. But try alternate click on toolbar >>> *customize toolbar*. In the available buttons you will find *Full Screen* and *Auto Hide*. I don't use the button on mine, because I like it that way all the time.
