Can't load wallpaper with objectdock running

Saturday, October 30, 2004 by Asub | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I've installed and configured some very nice objectdocks on my desktop, but now i can't get any wallpapers to load properly. I can only use plain colours as the background. Am I missing something obvious?

Save the objectdock theme and then unload objectdock. Then try to load the walls. Does it work then? I don't believe that ObjectDock as anything to do with your walls not loading, that's strange. I think its more due to windowblinds, not letting you change it if you checked the "apply any wallpaper supplied." Try those two pills and let me know in the morniong if your illness was cured.

WindowBlinds won't stop you from changing wallpapers, even if "Apply any wallpaper supplied" is enabled. I agree with Chas that ObjectDock has nothing to do with the problem. I have had DesktopX do this on my machine. If you're using DX, Open the Configuration dialog > Appearance tab, and make sure Background image isn't checked, and set to <None>.

Mmmm...the thing is, i don't have windowblinds or any other object desktop applied...just Object Dock. It's actually working great and it may actually benefit from a plain background. Since i posted the question, I have experimented and wallpapers do seem to stick if I have at least one shortcut or desktop item that's not sitting on any of the docks (i.e. actually On the desktop itself. Perhaps I've stiumbled on a bug...not sure, but either way I'm interested to know if there's a solution.

(P.S. I ain't no computer noob but I'm definitely an Object Dock noob!)

Thanks for your advice so far.

Make sure that you haven't locked the desktop - look in:

Display Properties->Desktop->Customize Desktop->Web (or rightclick the desktop & make sure 'Arrange Icons By->Lock Web Items on Desktop' is unchecked)

I also had weird desktop behavior because 'Arrange Icons By->Show Desktop Icons' was unchecked. This caused problems with wallpaper changing on one of my computers (the one with the Nvidia card).

Hope it helps.

These problems never cease to amaze me.

Sometimes, certain extensions have a problem with WindowsXP. Try bitmaps vs. jpgs. By the way, what is your wall extension? Are you running any shell modifiers?

ChrisTH - Just unchecked the lock desktop box and it's sorted the wallpaper problem straight away. Many thanks for that and thanks to everyone else who made suggestions.
