Hello: Is this a virus attack?

On my computer, when I look in some folders i seem to have different color file names. Usually they are all one color, but now I have 2 colors. I didn't set it that way.
Anywbody know what this is?

which folders are you looking in... a bit more detail would help, and what are the filenames?

ah yes. I just did a defrag. some folders are blue (the folder name) and some file names are blue too.
Also, what I am noticing is that I can not save image files. they come out fuzzy. Images files as in jpg files.
Oh and the folders I am looking in are in my documents. Haven't seen this anywhere else.
I am goin g to restart the computer, maybe then I can save jpg files in Paint Shop Pro...

Well, restarted the computer. everything seems fine except for Paint Shop Pro. Its doesn't want to save jpg files anymore unless I put it at lossless. Even then the file acts funny. Bitmaps also seem to save wrong. I would uninstall it and reinstall but this was a factory program installation.
This is a rotten day to say the least. so much for doing web design.

Here's the tip to determine for sure, if the file is compressed.
right click on the odd colored Directory and go to properties, then accross from the read only attribute should be an Advanced TAB, click this, towards the bottom of the box that open will either be a checked/ or unchecked Compression box.
What you might try is unchecking the compression box and then saving your images to that directory. Your program is trying to possibly save items into a compressed space, and not able to match the compression ratio, or the hand off to your systems file handling from the Paint program is not working properly and it is not being compressed properly. So try uncompressing the Directory and check back and let us know how it goes.

yeah, that was it. Paint Shop pro was acting funny because, I guess, of all the files in 'blue'. So it wasn't saving the images correctly. Real nasty looking saved images. I was almost in tears over here.... literally.

AHA! So that's what that is 
I too have been seeing some of my windowblinds folders in blue text. Couldn't figure out why. The 'compress contents to save disk space' option is checked and I know that I didn't check that. Does XP do that on its own?

Did you install a new upgrade or SP2? Microsoft has a very bad habit of redoing your computer the way it 'thinks' you ought to it when you update. Never mind how you want it done. 
I use Bryce alot and have several graphic's programs that take a lot of resources. I always kill things like messenger and file compression, and then I have a never ending battle with XP trying to reset/reinstall things after every update to suit Microsofts idiot ideas of how everyones comp should be set up.

Mel D: No, I haven't updated anything. I did add AstonShell, but I don't think that's what did it. Oh well, at least I know now what it is

If I allow Microsoft to download it's updates, I always have problems. Sometimes I lose my Norton Antivirus, sometimes my computer crashes. I just ignore the prompts to update now.
