| And just a little note for Stardock : lots of compagnies are paying to get beta testors. |
Hmm, I don't know about lots. As far as games go, they usually have people frantically filling out applications in the scant hope to be a beta tester. And even if they do test the game they still have to buy it when it comes out. Lots of software is the same as Stardock does with ODNT. If you have paid for an earlier version of some software they then will let those folks beta test upcoming versions. But I don't think it is nearly as common for companies to pay for beta testors as you are implying.
I could be wrong though.

Yes, because it's such a chore to beta test, and people hate it, but only do it to help Stardock....
Who you kidding? People love having access to the beta and alpha versions. Not many companies out there allow all their customers such access. Stardock got where they are through hard work, not through everyone else doing all the hard work.

Yep, perhaps a lot loves it ... hoping the versions won't get too much buggies. Do you really think millions(?) of customers enjoy to look for bugs and report them? Of course correcting bugs and developping such softs is a big deal, but trying to find (and reproduce) bugs to give good informations on them is also another hard work for just users ... How long time Stardock would have spend on developpment without this feedback ???

Ok, classes just started and I was in my 1st day of class for for cis-120.
Anyway, The teacher was going around the class asking everyone to stand up and tell the class your name, major and things you like to do.
I ended up going last. I stood up and told them my name and major and followed up with all I do is sit infront of a computer all day for fun.
The teacher asked what it was that I did.
I could'nt resist. I told them I was a skinner
You should have seen the faces of everybody! Not one person had a clue what I meant. He asked for more detail as to what exactly that was. I told him that I like to set up different Litestep themes and use programs like Icon packager and desktop x. The entire class and teacher looked at me like I was crazy!Standing there turning beat red all I could do is think about this thread and the discussion that we posted earlier about peoples reaction.
I just bursted out laughing and humiliated myself.

I refuse to be that into it.
I did want my old school to have a class (or teach skinning withing a class). But I really need a laptop to show them what I am talking about and I don't have one. I could, technically, teach the class as a sub-in for a day. They use MAC's though and I don't know too much about MAC skinning.
The one or 4 PC's they have are really for other media items. I still think they will let me teach the class IF they see the potential of skinning.
I hope to be able to afford one by mid-next year so I can go around to PC shops and freelance work for custom PC's. there is a shop around my way and I was thinking of going in there without showing them what exactly what I am talking about. I don't think it will work because more people see it as "eye candy".
Now that I am talking about it, I remember that I formed a whole idea around this... a few shops around my way and beyond could learn a thing or two with skinning, but I really need a laptop to show them.
One day...

Yep i like to customize my PC, (and from time to time sharing some things i do), but when things are becoming so silly, i've just something else to do that spending part of my time trying to explain evidence ... )
And just a little note for Stardock : lots of compagnies are paying to get beta testors. If you did'nt get all those ODNT subscribers (who for the most of them are enjoying to test new unworking versions of programs - for parts of them - and give you informations that you would'nt be able to find and solve on your own) what would your compagnie should have become ????
Just think a little of this ...
