SDC 2.00.280 Stole My Screen Space!
Tuesday, July 20, 2004 by Cafeend | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I'm happy with the right hand list of sub-sections, but could do without the gratuitous Stardock banner along the top. It's hard enough to read the message board threads at 1024 x 768 without losing more lines for a link I already know

| How about a checkbox that shows, unshows the top banner? |
| ...and some way to shrink or hide/show the left section |
Both sound like good solutions to me! Regarding the left section, a few other programs I use have a button for the navigation section to act like a flyout of sorts - heck, even Windows Explorer lets you turn the folder pane on and off

Couldn't the info presented there, when you go to the Object Desktop section, Games, and etc., be placed in the lower window?

One other thing. I wish SDC could differentiate between DesktopX, and DesktopX Pro. There's been a couple times that it tells me about an update, but I forget, and end up with the normal version after updating.

| OK, the banner's hidden, but the wasted space under the menubar is still there. Sorry to sound like a grouse, but it's only a minor improvement |
Maybe I wasn't clear in the original, but that's what I meant too! Not just the picture, but the whole pane.
Maybe another option for "I know what all these products are, Please hide the descriptions".

Yea yea I agree. I just noticed that too. Communication problem on our end.
Next build should remove the block entirely.

It's great that the hide banner option is there now but it still wastes to much space. Honestly guys, the layout of SDC before was great...it didn't take up that much space...you could see the Subject, From, Last Update, and Replies without having to stretch it across the screen. Everything was nice and compact. It was streamlined. There was also a bigger chat screen. I could understand this setup and would expect it from those "try and buy" apps that give you a banner untill you get a key code, but I never thought you'd get a banner after you got the keycode.
And hey, I know my screen is small, but do you have to rub it in?

Or even placed in the wasted space above? Oh wait, then it would almost look like our old SDC...hint hint!

That way I (who has a normal size screen) could see all Object Dock apps in the list as oposed to now when I only se half the list as the information thingy takes up the rest of the space. DOnt get me wrong I dont wanna loose the information thingy I just want it to ocupie the wasted space to the right. Humm, anyone follow me? (I actually think I have confused myself here

Let me draw it out for you:
How it looks now:
MENU..|.APP..EMPTY..|
LIST..|.LIST.EMPTY..|
EMPTY.|.LIST.EMPTY..|
EMPTY.|.DESCRIPTION.|
What I would like:
MENU..|.APP..|.DESC.|
LIST..|.LIST.|.DESC.|
EMPTY.|.LIST.|.DESC.|
EMPTY.|.LIST.|.DESC.|
Pretty much like the "three pane reading" that is all the hype now'adays in mail readers.
And while your at it, resizable grippers on all separators is something I pretty much expect now'a'days in a modern UI

Anyways, *THANX* for the "Show network banner" option!
humm, so much fo ascii art...
(as it didn't work at all)

One for it and one for you in case it's bag falls off?
I rather like it as a simple interface goes.
It would be nice if you could change the layout like you can in say ACDSee so the different frames can be placed inside the app display (container) as you like. Also maybe an option for display text, icon or text and icons in the menus. ( dinna check to see if that is there yet though so it might already be an option )
