Now that teleporting is a reality - what price the firewall or lots of threads brought together

It occurs to me that if we should ever get to the unlikely stage of transporting atoms and then people it is not entirely a thing to be welcomed and that some method would be necessary to prevent unwanted intrusions. Long (and purposefully) lost relatives dropping in at awkward moments, spelling obsessives suddenly appearing over your shoulder and refusing to leave until you'd edited and re-posted your thread.
A wave of unexplained disappearances of confectionary and only the faintest hint of Catsan in the air to give a clue as to who may have took it. Dedicated thread followers will know that the cow with the parasol is far too busy trying to find new batteries for its flashlight at the outer ring of the Galaxy to appear in this post.
So given this glimpse into tomorrow's world now that teleporting is a reality - what price a firewall ?
Oh yeh nearly forgot about Old Crab (sorry) for OC it wouldn't be an issue - he'd use a scuttlecraft

I was prompted to look into something, I am still checking two other sites for an old story about this.
The gist of it is, they split a photon and put one have in a trapped state at one end of a large room with the other half at the other end. Moved one half up, the oppsite moved up to match it, moved it down and it did thesame. Even with the distence it was true to the magnetic laws which bind waves or which a photon ispart of.
It got me to thinking about FTL or Faster Than Light Communications. you split a photon and decide upon an off and on state. This was done at USC around the same time as the Aussie team transported light.
anyway....

IPlural - leave my photons in the 'on' state if you don't mind, they've proven to be a natural block to the harmful effects of dihydrogen monoxide

) But wouldn't that both create drag and fail to protect her from the light and heat. Unless of course the cow is travelling backwards and using the flashlight to see where she's been.In any event, regardless of E=mc2, I now have an image of a cow accelerating towards light speed at the outer rim of the galaxy pointing a fading flashlight at a multi-coloured parasol that's branded with the traditional Chinese symbol for KMart and asking anyone who'll listen "does my bum look big in this ?"

(the depths of this tragic waste of bandwith }, apparently you did not receive your new bandwidth usage bill
I did, and I think I'll have it teleported to, umm, Jafo

You should know that the answer to that question is always 'No'

You also forgot to mention that the cow is drinking DHMO during this excursion

lovesblessing has checked with part of her herd of cows and they seem to feel singularly honored that there is a whole thread for them....hmmm, must have something to do with being contented!

As far as I remember I specifically stated at the beginning that the cows were far too busy in another thread to appear here - all this of course just so I can type the following:-Alternate Setting wishes it to be known his thread has been 'hidejacked'

lovesblessing apologizes to The Journeyman for "hidejacking" the thread....ya should have posted a sign "No Mooooooing Allowed!"

lovesblessing will now gather her "herd" and head for the hills.........! (right after she learns how to type!

I have no idea whatsoever any of you are talking about but if I come across a cow on the way to town I will be sure to administer the proper request for blessings and offer respect....unless of course it refuses to stop chewing to accept...in which case I will quietly shine my little flashlight in the other direction as to not disturb its deep and obviously superior awareness of the texture and piquant flavor of the grass while concentrating on its second stomach with the mental tenacity only gifted to the most holy of cows.Reply #35 Thursday, June 17, 2004 1:01 PM
How is the Cow going to continue at the established rate of velocity with a Parasol Dragchute?
Have to make sure to wrap it with a velcro strap

And to bring this thread back on track Texan scientists have managed to dissassemble a cow and then transport it across town successfully.
It had nothing to do with photons or atoms - they were just feeling a bit snackish
Now enough with the cows already

The city councillors of Aliso Viejo in Orange County, California, are well-meaning, socially responsible people. And when they came across the huge threat posed to their constituents by dihydrogen monoxide they did what any elected official should do: they took steps to protect their community. A motion due to go before the city legislature proposed banning the potentially deadly substance from within the city boundaries.
Tho what this has to do with my Star Trek technology thread I have no idea - and even more important I would think my Old Crab would never beam anywhere but instead use a 'scuttlecraft' joke should merit at least one groan from someone.
