I'm new, need HELP!

Sunday, May 16, 2004 by starblonde13 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I just discovered this website. I downloaded WindowBlinds 4 4.3(build 142)-Shareware XP. I also downloaded 2 skins titled flora and fathom, which are beautiful. I must emphasize that I am brand new to skinning but I am moderately computer literate. When I applied the skin and later needed to restart my pc, Windows would not load at all. I had to do a system restore to an earlier date to get it to load. Everything worked just fine until I restarted my pc. I love this option to change the look and am interested in the purchase of the 2 year subscription option if I can get this one issue resolved and learn how to use all of it's features. If anyone could/would help, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I appologize for the lengthy message.

Chas, thanks! I just signed up for the full version a few minutes ago and am now trying to see what I have with this subscription. I will look for your skins. Thanks again.

You''re welcome. Make sure you un-install all shareware versions completely before installing the full versions.

Oh, no, I didn't know I needed to do that. Is it going to mess something up? Should I go ahead and do that now?

I have uninstalled everything and reinstalled from the links that came in the confirmation email I received. However, all I am able to download for the WindowBlinds is the "public" 4 version, not the "full/enhanced" version. I am not sure what to do now. Thanks again, in advance.

Della...Della....

Un-install all ....again. Re-boot. Download this http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_current.exe . When it's installed put your Reg info (serial#s) is the noted areas and install your program(s) from there.Stardock Central (which is what you're installing) is pretty straight forward so you should be able to use it with few problems.....needless to say if that's not the case, then come on back

I think starblonde signed up for a Wincustomize subscription (noted 2 years earlier), not Object Desktop.

That is correct, mrtee, I did sign up for the 2 year Wincustomize subscription. I have just uninstalled everything again and am about to follow the link that yrag showed.

Wincustomize subscription does give you full unlimited downloads, chat and a couple of premium suites. But, it doesn't include the full version of windowblinds or any of the other programs. It may be better to get Windowblinds for the same price as the Wincustomize browser instead. That way you would have the full version of windowblinds and unlimited downloads. Or better yet, I would have got Object Desktop. It saves money on the whole, and it includes almost everything that the site has to offer. The Wincustomize browser is basically just a cute addon, if you just want unlimited downloads. It sounds to me that you are more interested in the programs. Object Desktop includes the programs Windowblinds, DesktopX, Iconpackager, ObjectBar, and many others. It is ultimately the way to go. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You don't need to uninstall anything if you are still using the shareware versions. I understood that you had purchased a full version of Windowblinds or the Object Desktop Suite of programs. You don't need to uninstall anything to use the Wincustomize browser.

Lol I already uninstalled & reinstalled everything. I suppose it would be more accurate to say that I misunderstood what I was getting with the 2 year subscription. I thought I was getting the full version of the windowblinds. But, I have now paid the fee, can I change that? If so, how? It is quite late now, I have to work in the morning. So, I am going to call it a night. I will check back tomorrow evening. I appreciate the help very much. Hope I don't drive everyone nuts. Have a great night all.

I would contact Stardock at this link. mailto:[email protected]
Tell them that you thought you were getting at least windowblinds and you found out differently on the messageboard. Ask them if you could change your purchase to windowblinds. Or you could ask them for credit towards Object Desktop and then give them the balance. This would be the way to go. In all my years of surfing the net and working with computers, I have never seen a better set of customizing software. I'm sure we would all like to hear their response to your dilemma. They have always been quite helpful and understanding to their new paying customers.
