GrandPrix is over for another year.....
Sunday, March 7, 2004 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Back again, folks....
Hope you guys have been having as much fun as I have over the past 4 days.
These cars just get faster and faster....in spite of regs attempting to slow them down.   Now, if only they were easy to distinguish at 306kph.  Looking for some coloured tape on their camera pods to tell them apart ain't the easiest of things at that rate of knots.....even for a 20 year veteran....

you dont want to be left behind when that happens, 7 cars burning rubber at the same time happens to attract cops for some reason.... wierd, and the smell stinks and the smoke stings your eyes.

| Before the GP, I was excited about the traction control and auto-boxes being banned. After falling asleep literally 3 times during the race, I'm wondering if it really was such a good idea....... |
Bring back front engines and skinny rubber I say!
We were there (only because it cost me nothing and the 'Corporate' catering is good!) and it was dead boring Hippy......unlike MotoGP.
Here's a thought, Schumacher gets around US$100,000,000 for sitting in a safety capsule and flicking a few buttons ..... while a group of people like Jafo get nothing and stand out in the open for 4 days or so, in all weathers, vulnerable to assault by a variety of mis-guided wheeled missiles.
Without Jafo and company Bernie's Circus of the Mentally Challenged wouldn't happen .... unless the Circus Master actually (Shock! Gasp! Horror!) paid people for their hard work.

Colin Bloody Chapman has a lot to answer for ...... >

wombat...it'd be nice to be paid...but then it's a case of pay peanuts - get monkees...
You know, the second oldest serving 'member' of the Ferrari team is the Australian GrandPrix Pit Lane Marshall for Ferrari....a volunteer Aussie...
78 of us have done 20 GrandsPrix in a row...that's 80 days trackside....I've clocked up 25....that's 95 days....and one I know did some at Sandown.....he's at 29 AGPs.
BTW...The Aussie GrandPrix is the second longest running....[after France]...

| You do it cause you want to! Everything else is just dosen't matter |
Excitement
1000's of people all feeding and feeling the rush
The sounds sending shock waves through your body and mind
Smell of exhust, gas, rubber pealing off on the pavemnet
Non-Stop adreneline
The wind slapping and buffeting you as the car fly by
After race parties and BEER with old friends swapping war stories both present and past BEER!!!!
na, sounds like not much fun

wombat....please stop putting down the GrandPrix and their appreciation of my efforts.
It gets tedious and as I'm a FIA and FIM Official you are also slighting me, and I'd rather it stop.

Jafo!
You know and I know there is nothing personal re my views.
I'm not impressed with what has become of the second oldest 'Grand Prix' the known World.
As for the FIM and CAMS .... my CAMS 'licence' remains current .... but I'm not impressed by the administration.
I'd be insulted if I was 'associated' with our mate Tim for a start.....
Never mind ... subject closed.
No personal offence intended.
No comments on anything from me in the future.

It's bad enough having to put up with those block-heads of Touring Car drivers...like Murphy [officials are unprofessional]....Ingle and Skaife...[the 'children' who show PERFECT professionalism]...when infact the ONLY thing that stops an Official being 'Professional' is that we are not paid.
They can be thankful that people in my position are 'professional' enough to remain impartial in spite of their BS.
I've worked 25 Australian GrandsPrix.....and tough titties if some may not like where they now are at.  At least I am doing something FOR the sport, not sitting back and poking holes.
Must be great to be a spectator with an opinion.....I've never had the opportunity....
