IMPORTANT! Re: Requesting skins
Thursday, January 29, 2004 by grayhaze | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
1. No movie, TV show, band, video game or brand name skin requests.
The copyright issues involved in creating such a skin are simply too big for any legitimate skinner to get involved. If a skin uses the trademarks/copyrights held by another party, then the author is opening themselves up to the possibility of a costly legal battle.
While it's true that certain skins do exist in these categories, they tend to fall into two distinct groups. Those which have been created as a result of a commission from the owner of the copyright, and those which have been created by 'new' skinners who don't know or understand the potential legal repercussions of their actions.
2. Be polite.
Never demand a skin. It isn't your right to have a particular skin made for you, and you're not going to get any help through bad manners. Simply state what you'd like to see, and don't get upset if you don't get any takers.
Some people seem to think that by buying a commercial skinning/customization application (eg. WindowBlinds, DesktopX, IconPackager), they are also buying the right to have skins of their own design. This is like complaining to a car dealer when they refuse to supply you with unlimited fuel and CDs to play on the stereo.
3. Be specific.
Don't just ask for a 'blue skin' or 'a skin with nice buttons'. There are plenty of those around if you only look.
For a skinner to get enthusiastic about creating a skin, they need to have a relatively clear picture in their mind of what they want to finished result to look like. If you can 'sell' the idea of a particular skin, you're far more likely to generate interest for your idea.
4. Skinning takes time.
If someone said they'd look into creating a skin for you on Monday, don't pester them on Tuesday to ask where it is. A good skin takes days, weeks, or sometimes months to create. Be patient and if you're lucky you'll eventually get what you wanted.
5. D.I.Y.
If you can't find anyone to create your dream skin for you, why no do it yourself? We all started somewhere, and if you have a good enough idea you're half-way there already. Just sit down with whatever tools you can get your hands on and give it a try.
Skinners are far more likely to give you advice on the mechanics of skin creation than they are to create an entire skin for you.
Who knows, one day you could be the one giving out the advice.

You weren''t directed here to make the request. You were directed here to read everything on copyrighted materials to show you why no one will probably do it.

I made a Playboy theme "Windowblind, CursorXP & Wallpaper" but in black and white with the Bunny Logo. I was unable to upload because I wan unable to get permissions. A lot of work and help was put into trying to get the permissions also. Playboy flat out said NO! Therefore, there will not be any Playboy theme uploaded to this site at any time. It it just not a possibility.

As I see it, there's nothing wrong with creating a "fan" skin based on a movie/game/band/whatever for personal use. The downside is you can't share it with the rest of the world, but you can share it with yourself and say to yourself you did it.
I would only recommend you to do the skin and see if you could get it approved after it's done, giving them a sales speach with examples of other companies that have taken this kind of advertising to them (Zippo, PC Magazine, NVidia, Nintendo, etc.)

That's one of the reasons that I decided to get ODNT, after using the free versions of some components. While I love much of the content out there, I'd like to have some stuff that's very "anime oriented", particularly based around some of my favorite shows/series. Since I'm the type that likes to know how things work, and doing things for myself.. I decided to start getting into doing this stuff on my own. Once I "get a handle" on things, I can create pretty much anything I want for myself, just won't be looking to spread that tpye of content around.... (That's what the original content stuff is for!)

Just me sticking my 2 cents in to try and answer your request. Here is a link to the wallpapers page at Skinbase: http://www.skinbase.org/wallpapers/wallpapers.php
If you go to the 3rd column and go down aways you'll find a link to their Dolphin wallpapers. You also might want to go thru the Fantsy link and see what is there. As far as a windowblind goes, well how about this one: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=3315 OR this one: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=2274
Fathom is by Mr. Brainiac
and the Aquarium is by Pixtudio. Both have a fishy look, uh, that would be the skins, not the folks!
lovesblessing also adds as a secret just for you....the guys around here have a great aversion to the dreaded "Dolphin" word....they get fussy about NOT having any of those critters round here, especially any made with Bryce software....I think they just all got their knickers in a twist for some strange reason....if you know what I mean???
Anyways, Dearie, that's 'prolly why you didn't get an answer right away from any of "the guys", ya know?????
Believe me, you really don't want to see what Mr. Jafo did with some dolphins and Bryce...they were pink, for goodness sake!!!!

anyways, i should have known better about the dolphins i suppose.
thanks so much: you truly are a "lovesblessing"!
