There are many regular posters here at the messageboard. At some other sites acknowledgement is given to those based on their number of posts. I don't completely think that an idea like that would carry over correctly here, but I'd like to see something of that nature implemented. Perhaps a new title for those like kona, xaltec or I who frequent the forums, but have not attained the apprentice status. We might not be as helpful as say Yrag or are rooted here like WOM, but we try.
I wouldn't mind except all of the normal titles for a citizen just don't look good with my nick and I'd like to have something in front of my name to make me feel special. I have strange needs.
ps I know I haven't been here as long as a lot of you guys, but I like it here and intend to stay.

"Idiot","Troll","Wincustomite","Boarder","Regular","Killer","Dawg", "Gorilla","Clown","Ugly",...you get the idea, just something to spice up my life.

My "56K" is more like a 22K. The last thing this site needs is more graphics. IT would look nice, sure, but it would take 10 minutes for me to load the site. Bad.

All MSpaint things should be BANNED from WC. So maybe it's POSSIBLE to make a good grraphic in Paint, but do you REALLY want to? After all, you get PAIN when you try to use PAINt.

Ok, I made this in like 5 mins. (In Photoshop, not MS Paint, nyeh!) Don't laugh.
I realize changing the layout of the message boards would mess up a lot of things. I like the layout for WC Browser, and I really think a forum instead of a message board could destroy that. But anyhows, I do think there should be a more user-oriented community feel to the site, rather than a cold profile that doesn't have a lot of contact info.
So here's my idea. It's prolly not practical, and I'm a stupid n00b, but here it goes anyway.

I like how this site is different from most other forums. Think of it as a messageboard instead of a forum. People learn about you from your words, and not a picture or other little things to be more friendly. I personally find this site more friendly than any other. I don't want a major change in the layout. Don't mess with something that isn't broken.

That's a standard layout that many forums have. It's a good idea, and I particularly like the space for your own little user picture, but if you load a page with 20 posts, that is far too much data for dialup. Forums are the most effective when easy to use and most of all, fast and slick.

Travis is right. Usually I do not abide by the "Dont fix it" rule, but it applies here. A while back T-man experimented with changing around the forums, and we decided we liked the older version better. This is a proven system of messaging, if slightly awkward. It works for me.

Xendre, in my Invision Power Board you can put limits and whatnot on file sizes for avatars, and for pics. There's also member options which you can disable pics so they don't load for you at all.

DoctorNick, it's a good idea, but the site isn't ready for such a switch. We're stil running on a smaller amount of servers than normal. Redoing the whole message board system would take an incredible amount of time and far too much resources. The current system is fine, and I see no reason why it should be changed. Yes, the avatar feature is neat, but it would still be more code in the forums and would thus slow everything down. A small decrease of speed is not noticable, but log a couple thousand users in and it begins to show.

If purchasing a subscription or ODNT doesn't affect your ranking, why is there an option to cross-reference your profile with Stardock? Just to keep track with you, or it is for admins and mods only?

it does. buying a stardock product gives you a rank of 3
buying a wincustomize subscription gives you a rank of 4
however in both cases you are still a citizen. and can only choose from the titles given for a citizen. you gotta do stuff to get to a higher title

while these may not look like regualr message boards. avatars and sigs can get to be a little over bearing. iv seen many boards go to the %^$$er cause of massive sigs . not to mention adding another thing the admins have to moderate...
