Can't wait for the next GUI Olympics!

Friday, December 19, 2003 by joetheblow | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I invented that you know.

Like the internet.

I know we talk about this before and the problems it caused during and after.

But I STILL LOVED IT!!!

I think we should have it every 4 years.

I think it stirs up community interest, excitment, love, hate, and other crap then can be good overall for the free community.

So what do you say?

There's a GUI Olympics thread less than 9 hours old, already on the board. Why start another? Especially since Brad has made it clear that Stardock would not be providing funding for another fiasco. (btw............I fail to see how hate, and crap can be good overall for the community)

What happened before is now in the past...who cares, times have changed. I think it would be a great thing

btw...Koasati, the threads are popping up because of the new poll...I vote YES!!!

For the 25% of us that doesn't know, could ya explain what a "GUI Olymics" is. I assume some sort of skinning contest.

The first GUI Olympics was held between February 1st, 2002 and March 31, 2002. It is a multi-website contest in which graphics designers from around the world come together and compete in a series of events to see who can create the best user interfaces in the world. The first GUI Olympics focused on creating visual styles for Windows using the popular Windows skinning program, WindowBlinds. The summer GUI Olympics will focus on icons, themes, MP3 skins, and skin suites. (source http://guiolympics.com/ )

Well I suppose that almost makes sense. After all, the people who know you generally do recognise you. Unless they have amnesia. Or you're wearing a disguise. Sorry, what were we talking about again?

I know what he means.....he's miffed that his GUI Olympics thread has fewer responses.

Perhaps the Threads themselves are the new 'Olympics'...

Not to blow my own trumpet (which incidentally isn't physically possible without a broken spine), but even my parents didn't really know me before the GUI Olympics. I doubt personal popularity had much to do with my placing in the contest. It was more likely to be the 'special packages' I sent to all the judges.

Now you get it.

Oh and I added crap and hate because my philosophy is that its all part of keeping the community healthy.

Everybody needs a vent to express themselves and I am sure there will be those who will about this.

It will start conversation, discussion and in the end be positive overall.
