The Quest for winCustomize Subscriptions.

Saturday, December 6, 2003 by horizon | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Ok, so this is set up to help get the site new drivers once enough subscriptions come in and you have the money. Question is, do purchases like windowblinds, desktopx pro, etc... help the site, or does stardock get all the money from those things?

good question, 'cause I'm just about due to renew my ODNT subscription, which I wasn't going to do until the next major update with WindowBlinds, since WB4 is fairly new.

It helps for sure. Stardock pays the bill for most of everything; it just expects Wincustomize to at the very least pay for its own computer (server). Human resources (coding, debuging) and bandwidth is paid by Stardock - which BTW represents a whole lot of money. So yes, buying Stardock products helps Stardock, therefore helps the site.

Would be a good time for a new exclusive suite also, since I cannot purchase again what I already have but would want to help.

If all 700,000+ bought a subscription for $20 for 2 years, that would be more than enough money to keep the site in servers and bandwidth for some years. To bad most people want things for free now a days.

Hm too bad this is one of my worse months money-wise. I'm at that point that if I had 5 bucks, I'd have to decide if it will go to gas for my car, or food for me.

Can the site take straight out donations? I still have over a year on my WC subscription (I think) and close to a year left on my OD subscription.

Do the sales of the skins and icons listed in the store go towards supporting the site? Or does all the money go to the skin authors?

It all helps.

Stardock pays for the IT development and most of the bandwidth.

WinCustomize subscriptions pay for the hardware and some of the bandwidth.

The better Stardock is doing, the more resources it can devote to WinCustomize.

This particular subscription drive has a specific goal because of the server issue. Losing two servers in a month is very unusual and as you can imagine, catastrophic.

Replacing those servers on short notice, especially high end ones like what this site requires, gets very expensive. 500 new subscribers = $10k which should take care of 2 new servers and setting them up.

It comes done to if you haven't already got a subscription go get one. Its a worthwhile investment if you like skinning. Instead of having dinner out some night, just have PB&J and there you go a wincustomize subscription

I second that notion. I have alot of money in my paypal account and would love to help out.

I mean how hard is it for Frogboy to go to paypal and set up a account so we could send him 20 bucks?

Tremendously difficult, I've seen men set off to start up a paypal account and were never heard of again....

I set mine up for my ebay selling and buying in less than 5 minutes.

all that would be needed is a personal paypal account, not a business one. >

oh well back to the drawing board.

Well, I guess it could come down to: No credit card? = no subscribe...No subscribe? = less money for WC and stardock. *shrugs* - up to them I suppose.
