Logon studio won't work

I downloaded logon studio and it won't change my logon. It keeps using the old logon style (Win 98 style). Theres no welcome screen.
Even when I go to Control panel > user accounts > change the way users log on > and check the "USE WELCOME SCREEN" option, it doesn't stay checked. I think something may be conflicting with the program, but I'm not sure what.
I have DesktopX2 installed, windowblinds, logon studio, bootskin, spyblaster, spybot S&D, and adaware installed. I am running Windows XP Professional Edition.

Logon screens do not need a user to logon, they will be displayed as a Welcome Screen on XP, and I presume on 2k also

You have a strange problem here, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by Old Logon Style (Win98), this should never appear, unless you mean the new XP welcome screen (two Tone Blue in colouring), but if you run LogonStudio highlight the Logon you want and click the apply button it should work correctly (unless the LogonSkin is corrupted).

I mean I dont' get a welcome screen. I get the prompt:

If you log in to a domain, that's all you're going to get. Otherwise, you have to setup to use the Welcome screen............. Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way Users log on and off > check the Use Welcome screen option.

Yes, I do that, but it becomes unchecked every time after I apply the changes. IE I will check "USE welcome screen" then click OK. Then if I check to see if it's applied, it is unchecked again.

I think its a setting outside of logon studio that you need to change. I'm not sure where it is, but if i remeber correctly there is an option to change the logon screen to that. I found a setting in x-setup (a setup utility that you will have to google to find) that will let you change this setting.
If you get x-setup
Start up x-setup and choose default ui. next choose startup/shutdown options. choose startup and the xp choice after that. then inside logon window. then welcome window/logon window and check enable welcome screen. click apply then restart. If it still isn't working then it is either logon studio or something else.

As stated before, if the system is a member of an NT or AD domain, that's all you're ever going to see. You cannot use the welcome screen.

Well....that was just a pciture I found on the web 
My logon doesn't have "DOMAIN" underneath it, just username and password. Do you think the antispyware is preventing me from changing these settings?

If "what I get" is not a screen from your system then you may not be in a domain. If that screen is really your system, then it's a member of a domain. That's what the "log on to:" is. If you select the drop down that lists "NUSSTF", you will see at least two choices. One is the domain "NUSSTF" and the other would be the local system name followed by "(this computer)". Try and hit the "Options >" button on the logon dialog and see what's listsed for "Log on to:".
If you're not in a domain, some programs will prevent the use of the welcome screen like PCAnywhere and a few others.
