Alienware laptops... Help me get one!

Thursday, November 13, 2003 by ScoobyWRX STi 04 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Maybe some of you have seen the Alienware icon I made for OD, and can tell I'm drooling over the Area 51-m Extreme. I need to raise a total of $3,808 to get the one I want with all the upgrades. I am 16 and am looking for ways to make money... I was thinkin setting up internet/ wireless internet for people and businesses, building some cuztom pc's for people (maybe not sure) and buy/ resell on Ebay. Other than that I am pretty much fresh out of ideas... I want this pc so bad, anyone have some ideas on how I can get one? I am pretty computer literete so I pick up programs quickly, but unfortunately I am limited in my knowledge of code...

Thanks

you could try to make a whole icon suite and try to sell it. That might raise some $$

IBM honestly makes dell lappies look sick

there is a reason dell is the number 1 computer seller. they sell MORE than ibm. I think ibm are the uglyest laptops I have ever seen.

"they sell MORE than ibm"

Britney sells a lot more CDs than other artists. Maybe that makes her the best? E-Machines sell *tons* of desktop machines, is that a statement of their quality?

IBM doesn't focus on grandmas and high-school kids, they have a different focus group. You'll probably not ever be assailed with "Dude! Yer gettin a Thinkpad!", nor will I expect you to ever see asinine "IBM interns" commercials.

I've used a Dell laptop, and I have used several Thinkpads. In my experience the quality is altogether different. One feels like a toy, the other feels like a computer. If you have used both, Kona, your experience may be different.

I have used both.

I was just pointing out that the cosmetic look of a IBM sickens ms.
Dell's just look better and give you more bang for your buck, not to metion award winning customer support.

The part I hate is the red pointer thing in the middle of the keyboard and the red mouse buttons.

FYI this is the dell I was spealing of. Way better looking than IBM.

Dell makes a good *home* user system and a fantastic server...

But as far as a Network laptop, it does not come close to an IBM...

As far as looks go, It is like saying a Porsche (sic) SUV is equal to
or better than a Saburban Hi/Lo 4x4 when it comes to doing what a 4x4
is ment to do.

One looks neat and the other will go anywhere you need it to. One is
an EGO (yuppie toy) boost hence the lable SUV and the other is a TRUCK.

I just dislike ibm, thats all. I owned several and they all sucked.

Never mind my opinion, no one does anyway.

Ahem...Toshiba, Alienware or Dell do not have the best laptop. The crown belongs to Voodoo PC.

Voodoo Envy 750:
Intel Pentium 4 desktop processors up to 3.2Ghz
Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Graphics - 128MB DDR
17" wide-aspect WXGA active matrix display
Built in Video Camera and Subwoofer

Price starts at ~$3700

Actually this is the most beautiful notebook in my opinion:

1.33GHz PowerPC G4

• 80GB Ultra ATA drive @ 4200rpm
• SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)

• Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• 17-inch TFT Display

Subtotal $2,999.00

I agree. It's not wise to judge a product on how many units get sold.

IBM doesn't focus on grandmas and high-school kids, they have a different focus group. You'll probably not ever be assailed with "Dude! Yer gettin a Thinkpad!", nor will I expect you to ever see asinine "IBM interns" commercials.

As corny as those Dell ads are, I do not use them as a bases for judging the quality of Dell products. I just look at what's inside the box. I think IBM Thinkpads are pretty good since I have an old one running on a Pentium 60 Mhz. It makes a good porable MP3 Player and e-book reader.

I wasn't rating the quality by the commercials, sorry if it seemed so. I was just pointing out that Dell has a very different way of marketing their products, and their tactics have a lot more to do with the number of their laptops sold than the quality.

IBM really doesn't need to do the grass-roots, song-and-dance thing, since their livelihood doesn't depend on getting one in every household. That was the mistake Gateway made, and I don't even want to start in on their 'quality'.

That was all I was saying.

I'm not a big fan of Gateway myself even though my home state, South Dakota, is the birth place of the Gateway company.
