Doctor Who

Wednesday, October 1, 2003 by grayhaze | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I just finished watching a report on BBC London News here in the UK about the new Doctor Who, which is due to start filming soon. They had Tom Baker (still probably the best Doctor) on there and he 'let slip' that the new Doctor would be played by Eddie Izzard. I don't believe it myself, but I'm slightly worried that it could be true.

Who would you like to see as the new Doctor Who?

You know, in one of the later episodes of Doctor Who they actually found out that the Daleks could move down stairs. There was this whole scene where they were hiding in a basement and a shot of the Doctor's startled face as the Daleks started to 'float' down on their magnetic/static whatever-they-are-that-they-move-on.

I loved the Daleks. Especially their weaponry. Who can stand their ground in the face of an onslaught of Daleks waving toilet plungers at you!

Someone else mentioned it first WOM... Special effects for Dr.Who were really bad and at first I wouldnt watch it because of that. But I came to see it as part of the charm of british television. That and british women. The accent drives me wild!I want to marry Felicity Kendall.

Yeah,the toilet plungers were great!

Wonder how much an hour they charge for a house call?

Dr. Who was cheap on the special effects. Kind of childish, but I did watch it and enjoyed it.

I know I.R.B. but they arn't from Texas. Hehe.

"Who can stand their ground in the face of an onslaught of Daleks waving toilet plungers at you!"

Yeah, terrors of the universe with those mighty plungers.

Yeah the show got by despite the shoddy effects (although those certainly were part of the fun too) and the cheap production values by not taking itself seriously and having an audience similarly willing to "suspend disbelief" (or at least ignore it and any pretense to "reality") just to enjoy the ride. Fun show and warmly remembered.

It's important to note, re the 'special' effects...that the show is now 40 years old....tand that the first time I saw it I'd have been about 10, watching a black and white television and mesmerised by those same 'special' effects. Time/age/advancements ruins everything....

Mmmmmm.... Leeeeela... (gargle)

She was Great.. Instead of "Look out Doctor", with her it was "Shall I kill him Doctor?"

I forget... was she a member of the 'Tesh' or the 'severteem'? (that'll test ya )
