Thank goodness! IMHO it was one of those shows that was a waste of time. Now if we can manage to get rid of a few more...

Seriously though, your thoughts?

I never watched Buffy, but I always thought it was a kids show, kinda like the witch show... what's her name again?... Ah! Sabrina!

Kid's show?? You really never have watched Buffy then. I can't remember the last time I saw a decapitation on Sabrina... although it's not a bad idea.

I'd be interested in seeing your top 10 list of current favourite shows.

My favorite shows are these:

1. Star Trek (Original, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise (see kind of skeptikal about Enterorise))
2. King of the Hill
3. Simpsons
4. Survivor
5. That 70's Show
6. Yu-Gi-OH
7. Smackdown! (WWE)
8. Raw is War (WWE)
9. 24
10. Reba

think the problem with shows like Buffy and Angel is that unless you've seen the show pretty much from the start you wouldn't understand a great deal of the writing and humour. I can see how a person who only watched Buffy for the first time during the sixth season or whatever would find it hard to follow and probably not understand a great deal of the humour which relies on in-jokes and references to popular culture. Those kind of shows are the ones that you need to stick with to get the full enjoyment.

We (my wife and I) have watched Buffy since it started, currently we are planning to get the seasons on DVD

Kona, if you don't watch MTV (as you have stated many times before) how do you know that you hate the shows? I watch MTV once in awhile, and I don't even know what those shows are. How is it possible to rate a show that you haven't watched? Did you actually watch multiple episodes of the other shows on your list?

I have no choice but to watch MTV because my wife loves that channel.

Without meaning any disrespect (or much at least), my suspicions have been confirmed. You're a Trekkie wrestling fan. I'd agree with King of the Hill and perhaps The Simpsons.

I tend to find that folks who are devoted to all things Star Trek have a tendancy to shrug off most other shows which approach the kind of popularity Trek does. My opinion on Trek is probably the complete opposite to that of devoted fans, in that I consider Voyager to have been the best of the shows and TNG to have been boring and repetitive with flat characters and poor story development.

We (my wife and I) have watched Buffy since it started, currently we are planning to get the seasons on DVD

Erm... if it's one of the all-time top 3 shows to be a waste of time, why on Earth would you buy the DVD boxsets? This is almost turning into your 'I hate PCs, I love PCs' line of thought again.

grayhaze. I've actually watched it maybe twice, or parts of it anyway.
Dunno, it still gives me an impression it's a kids show. By kids, I mean young teens. Like 12 or 13 kinda age.

Or that other show, whatsit called? Charmed?  I put all these shows in the same category in my head: Buffy, Charmed, ... teenie shows.

Sooner or later you will realize that I have an extremely good memory and can remember just about every useless fact that I read.  Does "I don't allow MTV in my house" ring a bell to you?   If it's not allowed in your house, how can your wife be watching it?

paxx, Buffy *might* be watched by teens, but I am pretty sure that it shouldn't.  It gets a little too "dark" at times.

Talking about dark, is "Dark Angel" still on?  i think I watched an episode of that a few years ago.  It looked like it might end up OK.

With WWE, does anyone know why it is now WWE instead of WWF?  It's kinda' funny.  WWF (World Wildlife Fund) owned a trademark on WWF for a very long time.  WWF (the wrestlers) started using WWF, and the real WWF ignored it.  The very intelligent lawyers of the wrestlers decided to sue WWF for using their "trademark".  Funny thing was, the judge ruled that the wrestlers had to change since the Wildlife fund already had a registered trademark on it.  So, now it is WWE.  (There, another useless thing that I read and remembered...)

A couple of days ago, on another topic, I gave the opinion that in disagreeing with someone, while we can attack the person's point of view, we should not flame anyone as a person. After reading Kona's list of biggest time wasting shows---I must abandon my earlier point of view!

Kona, you (bleep), (bleep), (bleep) how can you put such great shows an "Buffy" and "Angel" on that list.

Seriously though, both are vastly entertaining and aren't dumbed down like much of what passes for entertainment on television today.

Dark Angel got cancelled after two seasons, and unfortunately it never really got all that good. The best thing about the show was Jessica Alba.

Buffy certainly does get dark. It's covered rape, murder and countless gory deaths over the years. If I hadn't watched both shows I'd probably lump it together with Charmed too. They're worlds apart though, and Charmed actually irritates me more than it entertains. It tries too hard to copy the formula of its rivals.

Hum, grayhaze. The little bits I saw certainly didn't cover those topics.
Was mainly a teenage girl fighting ridiculous looking gouls, or vampires.  Dunno, maybe there's more to it than I saw. But it didn't look any more "serious" than Wonder Woman, which I figured it was the modern equivalent.

So watches it while I am at work. When I come home, it is on. Nothing I can do about it.

China how can you waste you time watching Buffy and Angel...?

If that were the case, it never would have lasted beyond the first season. I think it's pretty damn impressive for a TV show to be spawned from a very poor movie and make it through seven seasons. Sure, it's had its ups and downs, but it's never got to the point where it's lost any of its appeal.

The character development and issues covered by that show make most episodes of Star Trek look like a poorly-directed school play. It created a believable world where you truly cared about the characters and couldn't wait for the next episode just to see where the show would go next. In contrast, Star Trek TNG created a squeaky-clean childlike view of a future where humans have overcome most of their 'failings' and where you could pretty much guarantee that the next episode would feature a temporal or spacial anomoly. Boring!
