Damn Carpal Tunnel
Have to take a break
Tuesday, February 11, 2020 by Chasbo | Discussion: Life, the Universe and Everything
All the years of clicking has caught up with me. I haven't seen the specialist yet but my regular Doc thinks I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Damn it hurts! Anyway I have to make myself ease up on using my PC. This means no skinning until this is cured.
I'm like a junkie needing a fix! I need to make widgets! Alas I have to cool my jets for awhile and that's not to mention if I miss some days at work, I don't get sick days.
Hopefully I will hear from the specialist soon and we can get this thing fixed.
I know RedneckDude has recently gone through this. It's hell getting old.

Will miss your work Chuck, but you need to get fixed/better, so you can go wild in skinning again!
Get well!

Get well soon Chuck and stay off of "those sites". How do you think Jim got it?

For me it was a quick recovery, just a few days and I could use a mouse...lol.
A few weeks and it was like nothing ever happened. Then I did the other hand. But I also had ulnar nerve transposition on each elbow while I was at it.
Chuck, you'll be happy you did it. I waited 24 years to do it. Don't wait.

Al, I can't share anything with you, can I? lol

The Dr. poked me with little needles hooked to a laptop. Then he listened to my nerves communicating, sounded like static on an old radio. White noise.

Get well Brother!
We'll hold it down for you!

I don't have carpal tunnel as such, but I do have arthritic issues with both thumbs and some fingers, so find using a mouse difficult at best. I had a cortisone injection in each thumb to ease the pain, but those are wearing off and I'm not due for another for 2 - 3 months.
Anyhow, Chas, hope your lot improves real soon and you can get back to skinning.

That sucks. I'm not at that stage of life yet but I've certainly already noticed things like not being able to endure all nighters like I once did and getting very mild cramp during long sessions.

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome more than 30 years ago, and have spent every night since then wearing wrist splints at night to keep my wrists straight. I've managed to keep it under control, although I do have pain in both wrists, but not the pain shooting up my arms like I used to get. Given some scarring issues from past surgeries I've shied away from the carpal tunnel surgery, but I wish you luck if you choose that path as I know it has helped many people.

Sorry to hear this, Chasbo...speedy recovery to you!

I had surgery for this about a year ago. It really wasn't a big deal and recovery was pretty quick.

No but it's a lot better. I'm on gabapentin which seems to relieve the nerve pain. The covid crap came along right when I started to explore treatment and I haven't talked to that doctor since March. The numbness in my fingers has gone away. There's times when I feel pain in my forearm but nothing too bad. My fingers get stiff at times but I think that's arthritis. The specialist thought that might be the case as well.
I come from the old school where if it ain't too bad then live with it. I don't know what the long term use of gabapentin is but it seems to help a lot.
Thanks for asking Jimbo!

not sure it's helping as the fingers can end up a bit clawy at times
