I hope they change their mind before tomorrow and continue support for Windows 7!

I doubt it very much, Tom, MS has been trying to get everyone off earlier editions and to update to Win 10. There are still ways people on Win 7 can update for free, not that MS advertises it. For mine, it's a sneaky way to promote Win 10 installations, by unofficially leaking ways to freely update to 10.
Apparently, the folk over at majorgeeks successfully updated to and activated Win 10just by installing it over Win 7 and using 7's product key. Haven't tried it out myself, but then I haven't the need to.

At one point in time, MS said that was an accepted way to upgrade for free. Didn't know it still worked.
I didn't know, either, but the 'geeks' reckoned it worked for them more than once, and that others confirmed it did for them as well. The same does not apply win Win 8 or 8.1, however. I think that may be because they still have another year or two before they're retired as well.

While we're on the subject.... ways to update to Win 10 for free.
This was put up by majorgeeks on Jan 14, so it's not that old, but if you want to do the upgrade/update, I wouldn't hang around procrastinating. MS may have left this 'loophole' for a while but may close it any time; so Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack don't stand too long over the candlestick.

I would not advise anyone to use "JamesBow"s method.
Do not use "driver update" software. That is the least safe method.
The best methods to update drivers are:
1. Through the device manufacturer's website or
2. Through Windows Update.
