What happened to skin Moderation Lately???

Sunday, July 20, 2003 by jarget | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Listen I can't skin worth a Sh--. But sheesh. Over the last few weeks I've had to rub my eyes and clean my glasses when checking out some of the new admissions here at Wincustomize. And what's up with all these wallpapers being posted here of all these glob, drippy, distorted, mucous, exploding, gumby shaped thingies. These are so overdone. And Wincustomize says "The finest collection of Wallpapers on the Internet!", I don't think so. One only has to go to >>>>> http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/ for that. Now before you all go getting your geco panties in a wad let it be known that I've been visiting Wincustomize since the beginning, I've purchased WinFX, WB, OB, many of the skin suites if not all and I was a Object Desktop subscriber since last year(plan on renewing next month). My intent is not to insult any of the skinners or Wincustomize. I just like great skins, walls etc. And for those who are going to tell me to leave... Uh Huh I'm gonna stay. I never said I didn't like it here, I just think things have gotten away from Wincustomize's original Sprirt. And for those of you who are gonna say what do you want for free. Sure I've downloaded skins for free, but I believe I've purchased every skin suite from Stardock/Wincustomize also from Pixtudio so I'm not a freeloader. Let's just watch the uploads people.
RANTING Done.

what about the WB submissions?

Other than walls, and logons, skins have never been moderated for quality. If you see badly made skins, offer some constructive  crtiques............ that what the comments are for.

I've noticed a change in moderation(sorta). Some real lulu's have been accepted so I was disappointed when some things that I thought were good were rejected. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to any of it.The guidelines dont seem to mean much.I would find it difficult to be a moderator and reject anyones work. But I dont want to see wincustomize go the route of other websites that allow ANYTHING.I say let the users judge and set a minimum number for logged on dl's for a submission to remain. The admins should have some idea what kind of average even a mediocre wall should reach.

I think there is a lot to be said about the fact that so many complained and demanded the bar be lowered instead of finding personal pride in reaching for it and grasping it.

sad....

fyi, I edited this post three times before cutting it back to the above, I figured no one really cared to read a 1000 word post...

Let me be clear:

If no one ever submitted a wallpaper here ever again we would be perfectly happy about it. So if you don't like how we handle wallpapers, simply don't submit them.

If you upload a wallpaper it may make it, it may not make it. We're not going to agonize over each wallpaper. It's just wallpaper. There are a gazillion sites that have wallpapers.

Are we clear: We don't care if you guys submit wallpapers. Feel free to never ever submit anothre wallpaper ever again. As far as I'm concerned, the wallpaper section is a waste of space and bandwidth. We have it here as a convenience of users.

Fact is Brad, you will never please everyone and I am sure that you realize that.

There will be those who take this all too seriously, those who take it only seriously enough and those (like me) who like to rib a little about it. However, it must be realized that the people have a voice and as such will use it for good or bad when they feel necessary. Most people who post here support both Stardock and WC even if there are some complaints.

Frogboy i had no idea you felt that way.I think a lot of us feel that our walls are an integral part of our windowblinds.Putting the wall in the wb file tends to make for a huge file size.I would hope that any wallpaper created for a specific skin would make in.They are meant to compliment each other.

I guess this would explain skins poppin out of nowhere .

You know, when it reaches a certain rating, I see it. Always wondered about that.

Now why can't I change it.

If it wasn't for the Wallpaper section I wouldn't be here, the rest didn't mean much to me at the time

I don't understand the arguments about not including wallpapers in wb. Make a decent jpg in 1280 x 1024 (resizes well to lower resolutions)and that's it. It is not that space-consuming. And that way it will not be rejected.
