- 'Sort alphabetically' sorts the shortcuts from right to left or if it is meant from left to right descending.

That's by design. For a Drawer at the left screen edge, icons go from right to left 'into' the screen edge, that is, the first icon is always the one closer to the tab.

- If I choose not to show the icon descriptions it should free that space, not reserve it nevertheless

And it does free that space. Anyway a screenshot with and without would be nice for me to understand what you are seing.

Also, exactly what setting are you using not to show the icon descriptions/labels in the Drawer? Should be Drawer Properties -> Appearance -> Set 'How many lines of text...' to 'No label'.

- I cannot add new content (new tab ?) to a drawer, all buttons are greyed out

Unlike a Shelf, which can have multiple tabs, a Drawer by nature only has a single tab and you cannot add more. If you want something with several tabs, use a Shelf instead.

Now, Drawers actually used the same code as Shelves (you can say it's a Shelf in a different mode). Because of this, they also use the same Property dialogs, where the word 'Shelf' is replaced by 'Drawer' and some specific settings are modified, removed or disabled.

In the case of the Contents tab, I played with the idea of actually removing the 'New', 'Insert', etc, buttons by making them invisible (as they only make sense when dealing with Shelves) but that looked a bit odd. In retrospective, if it confuses users perhaps I should make them invisible or simply use a different dialog altogether.

Thanks, but you never need to buy it brand new after having it done once, Ross. Once a Winstep customer, always a Winstep customer - you can always renew at the reduced price even if it has been years since your last renewal. Just send an email to Winstep support for the renewal link.

That's great to know.  By the way, I'm thinking instead of renewing my Nexus Ultimate sub I might move to Winstep Xtreme; don't know if the discount would apply in that case ( ? )  Cheers

No. You would simply pay the price difference between the two products (but you're already saving some money on the renewal by doing this, as the Xtreme license key will be good for a year of free updates).

There's a button in the About tab of Nexus Ultimate you can use to upgrade to Xtreme - just make sure to read the upgrade instructions in the email with your new Xtreme license key!

All makes sense to me and I solved the space problem myself. Can You consider to have an option for the order of shortcut sorting in the drawers though ?

Not sure that would be something relatively easy to implement, or even if it would make much sense in the case of Drawers. Will look into it though.

And we have Grid Stacks in the menu for the next release!

Dimensions are automatically calculated, there is a cool pop up and close animation towards the parent icon, and because the Grid Stack runs with the power of Shelves it can display anything the latter does. In this case, it is showing the contents of the Windows Control Panel, but you can make it display the contents of any folder and even make a Stack you can directly drag your own shortcuts into, add modules and internal commands, etc...

This is an excellent program - so many settings to really tweak the dock the way you please. Thanks for releasing this. I hope to upgrade in the near future.

Just a smaller teaser for next release (v18.11):

Nexus Ultimate and Winstep Xtreme now feature native Grid Stacks:

As everything Winstep, these Grid Stacks are not your basic run-of-the-mill Stacks though, but something a lot more powerful and flexible.

Make sure you have 'Notify me of beta (test) versions' in the Advanced tab of Preferences. A public beta will be out soon if not even later today (after two private betas, so that there wouldn't be any show stopping issues in the public beta). I like my betas 'clean'.

I'm gonna take you up on that. But to other matters. This happened when I went to delete a pic from the shelf. I hit retry and it worked as it should. But what created the error? No clue.

Can you repeat the error by doing the same thing?

I tried but nope. Hasn't happened again.

Edit: It just did.

What I need to know is *exact* and *detailed* steps to reproduce this here (i.e.; what you did), please.

Main keyword being 'detailed' ehehe

Public beta of v18.11 has been released for Winstep Xtreme and Nexus Ultimate users.

If you like living on the bleeding edge (just kidding, Winstep betas are usually pretty safe with only minor issues like the one above, if any) then you should enable the 'Notify me of beta (test) versions' on the Advanced tab of Preferences and then click the 'Check for Updates' button.

The most obvious addition is the new 'Grid Stack' (or GStack for friends).

The classic Stacks Docklet provides a handy extension that allows a dock to show items from a folder in a Leopard MacOSX style, but is marred by its inability to manage or rename those files.

A Winstep Grid Stack goes an order of magnitude further: not only does it allow the user to manage files in any folder it's currently displaying (with full drag & drop support) as - just like the Shelf (tabbed dock) in Winstep applications - it's also capable of displaying the contents of special shell folders such as the Desktop, My Computer, Control Panel, Recent Documents, and so forth...

In fact, if you are familiar with Shelves, anything a Shelf can do, so can a GStack. This means built-in support for over 30 different mouseover, launch, etc, effects - plus full compatibility with existing Winstep skins.

Adding a new Gstack is easy: just right click, select Insert New Item then Grid Stack and finally select the type of Grid Stack you want: Regular, Folder, Apps, Most-Used applications, Drives, etc...

You can even quickly convert existing folder shortcuts in your dock to GStacks: just right click and select Convert to Grid Stack (so the quickest way to add a new Gstack is probably by dragging a folder from Explorer into the dock then right clicking and selecting Convert to Grid Stack). This also works the other way: you can right click on a folder type Gstack and convert it into a folder shortcut.

Other additions in this beta include the ability to copy sub-docks (with all their content) via drag & drop by pressing CTRL while dragging, ability to set different text effects and effect opacity levels for dock icon labels, new 'Downloads' tab type for Shelves, Drawers and GStacks, plus some fixes related to UWP Apps in Windows 10 and with files that have non-latin characters in the filename.

Please Note: the free version of Nexus will NOT support Grid Stacks.

If you are running Nexus free and needed one more reason to upgrade to either Nexus Ultimate or Winstep Xtreme (really?!), well, there you have it.

Detailed:

First thing I did was add downloads to the shelf as is shown in the screenshot. Opened the shelf, right clicked on the pic (jpg) and clicked on delete. The jpg would vanish and the error dialogue opened. I clicked on retry, the explosion effect happens and the jpg reappears. I then right clicked on the jpg again and it works as it should. One thing I did notice was the dialogue didn't appear right away. Instead it opened half way then a second later the full dialogue appeared. That's it, that's all I did. Step by step
