I agree that Kazaa can bu used legitimatly. But probably 99% of Kazaa users use it illegally.

Asking for a Kazaa icon on a message board is like asking for a marijuana pipe through Wall-Mart's intercom. The pipe sure isn't illegal, but there is little doubt what people would think you'd want to use it for.

This is my point of view:

"I need an icon for derive (A math program), where can I find it?"
"ohh, wincustomize, that's a good place to find that"
"Gosh: I’m lost here, and there is no search function!"
"I will have to ask in the message board!"
"Somebody will do some day an icon for Derive?"(Is not polite to ask this way)
Someone that answers: "NERD, get out of here, we don't like math"

I know, this is extreme, but is exactly what happened here.

1) We need a search function in the main page, so people that are new to the site can find their stuff.

2) People, second time that I say this: BE NICE, we are a community, a friendly community

Good advice Keila.

A lot of the 'regulars' here are becoming the very thing they themselves despise - trolls. What an ugly messageboard this has become. Clean your act up >

lalfonsob: I understand your point of view, but the difference is that math isn't illegal.

What I find sad isn't so much the fact that somebody is asking for an icon, but the fact that pirating music is so common that people forget that it's illegal. When we come to the point that we consider a pirating software the same way as a math software, well, it's time to say "Huston, we have a problem."
Asking for a marijuana pipe does not have the same moral implications as asking for a candy bar.

I know paxx and as I said, my example is something extreme. But: what is this site about? Art!!! He asked about art, He wasn't polite, but it was just an icon. Just say, "no I don't know."

If there is a conversation on say designing wallpapers and you turn it into a discussion about third party Photoshop filters, you stand the risk of losing your posting priviledges. If there is a post discussing the finer points of stock portfolios and you turn it into a tirade about Enron, you stand the risk of losing your posting access.

And that obviously goes for posts that are about somethign relevant that turn into cutesy quasi-private conversations between people inside of posts.

And if you want to discuss something, make a post. You can post about pretty much anything you want here in the sense that you can create your own thread. But don't hijack other people's threads. It's rude and it's unnecessary.

B)by Tech Cat - 5/29/2003 8:15:03 AM What I mean is that the sin is not the fault of the tool that is used but is the fault of the people who use them. It all comes down to personal accountability.

C) Tech Cat - 5/29/2003 8:33:33 AM I don't think you can expect a newbie to this site to already know how the majority here feels about Kazaa. As stated earlier in the thread, people should have limited their response to Yes, No, or I don't know instead of jumping on his case.

well actually there are some kazaa zoomers ON THIS site. Look under DestopX Zoomers section.

Must admit even I'm kind of ashamed with how some ppl replied to a simple icon request. Yes K can be used illegly but it can also be used legal and by makeing the auto assumption that he's doing the prior you have in effect tried and convicted someone based on mearly opinion. I may not do art but I do have a habit of at least putting ppl together (like getting nutschell to port FauxsToon to Trillian) but still like to feel a part of the community and right now hanging head over this thread

(climbs down off soapbox)

Anyway, like I said, it's not about the icon. It's about the moral implication of the application. When you ask out loud for something that has rather controversial conotation, it's not surprising to get rather controversial responses.
Yes, this is a customizing site, yes we have icons, so yes, the request is no out of bound.  Wallmart sells stuff, and who knows, they may actually have marijuana pipes. But nobody goes around out loud asking about it for the whole store to hear.

So, anyway. We DO have a search engie for skins and stuff, and it's not hard to find or figure out.
I just types Kazaa in the Object Dock section, and lookey what I found:

Makes me wonder how many people are literally scared away from here that might have been a great contribution to the site.

I'm one of 'em. i would love to upload my skins and walls but what is the point? They will just get rejected.
One other thing i have noticed is if you have a strong opinion about anything THAT does not concur with the admins or regulars point of view you are labeled a troll.

kona0197, why do you assume that all your skins and walls will get rejected? I hardly think they will reject anything you submit out of a grudge against you. Why don't you just submit and see what happens? What do you have to lose?

I think that way because I am so new to skinning that a 5 year old can make a painting that looks better than my stuff. When I am ready, I will upload.
