Windows XP appearance

I wanna get a new appearance for XP - different colours for the start menu etc. - without downloading a software program like win styles. Is this possible? Where can I download new appearances from?

There is no way to apply any other styles to XP without another program, unless you hack your system files yourself. Microsoft has biult in a "feature" to prevent anybody from installing styles that are not officially "Microsoft approved".
So your best way is still to go with a third party program such as Windowblinds, wich is moer complete and more flexible anyway as far as skinning goes than XP's styles.
