Your opinions

Sunday, April 27, 2003 by gef | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Has anyone used 'customize.org'. I recently decided to create an account there and uploaded one of my DesktopX themes. I received a comment from one of the admins? stating that no-one uses DesktopX much anymore so I asked them to delete my account,a simple enough request.
Not only would they not do this, but also there is no way of removing the theme I uploaded and some of the comments I received were similar to this:
gef:::: GET A CLUE! Either your account cannot be deleted, or it is complete pain in the ass to delete and not worth the time and effort, when it is far simpler to not visit the site anymore and not use your account.
Don't worry like a little bitch, your account will not be hijacked, no one cares about your IP, and you WILL be forgotten. Your user profile is NOT the gateway to your personal information. Judging by your inability to soak in information when it is given to you, I don't think anyone cares to know anything more about you anyway..........
Not the sort of comment you would wish for and not one you would get from a responsible site.
I certainly would not recommend anyone to use 'customize.org'

Oh....Customize.org had the honour of being the first skinning site of any significance. That waned almost overnight when skinz.org came along.
It, [Custo] fell into disrepair and expired, only to re-emerge a shadow of its former self.
Unfortunately, [some] attitudes there are less than helpfull, and/or polite.

The nicest thing that can be said for Custo is 'Different strokes..."...

you received constructive critisizm by Max (the admin).
then a user said: "im not sure people use desktop X anymore, at least from what i can see."

so you are not telling the full truth in your first post. i am not sure what YOU mailed the admins, but maybe the answer you got was well deserved.

btw: your account here would not be deleted either.

You stick with us Gef! A quality themer like yourself shouldn't be treated like that.

I think it shows how much they know when they state " No-one uses DesktopX much anymore!.
Yeah...Right!

here´s where you got the second answer: http://www.customize.org/forum/5275 also by a user, not by an admin. sorry, but try the same here calling admins childish and you well get pretty much the same in return.

Customize.org is legally obliged to remove your artwork/skins if and when requested by you.
You hold inalienable rights to the distribution and handling of your property, so on demand it MUST be removed from public access.
No 'ifs', no 'buts'...

Jafo: he did not ask for removal of his skins, but to delete his account. two different things.
for deleting skins, there´s the "Manage Uploads" link at the top right.

The general attitude of posts on that thread was pretty 'ordinary' at best.

I'd like to think that if the same request was made here the response would be...'contact T-Man he is the only one with the capacity to edit the database.'

Actually...I posted exactly that the last time it was 'needed'...

gef uploads a DesktopX theme.
Max offers constuctive critisizm on the graphics.
they aren´t that fantastic, there´s room for improvement.
gef can not deal with that.
gef starts a thread asking to delete his account, saying he´s getting too many popups.
Max tells him if he would not visit the site anymore, he would not see this popups anyways.
gef attacks Max, calling him childish.
...
gef starts a thread here, telling only half-truths in order to get backed up and get his self esteem boosted.

sorry, but have you read the threads here, when somebody complains aggressively that he reached his download cap? not to much difference.
"little bitch" is very harsh, but gef DOES look dumb here.

moshi...I think your interpretation is as equally 'slanted', if anything.

Quite an 'assumption' that gef 'can not deal with that' [critisizm] = [criticism]... Spell checker

see, i know you do not like custo, because Miriku (who is not an admin any more) deleted the Pixtudio ads (that were not in the screenshots section where they would have belonged to) in a rude way. resulted in rather stupid behaviour from both sides in my opinion, but Miriku was worse.

sure it´s just an interpretation, but it would help if gef would tell the truth, both here and at Custo.
at Custo he says he wants his account deleted because of the popup ads, here he says: " I received a comment from one of the admins? stating that no-one uses DesktopX much anymore so I asked them to delete my account" ...

thanks for the spell check, sometimes using the internet makes my English even worse

Just to clarify, my original reqest to cust.org was "Can any Admin delete my account - reason too many popups, ads etc. Also cannot perform easy tasks like deleting accounts". A polite request? This was because I only write DesktopX themes at the moment and someone at cust.org said that no-one uses it much anymore and I am constantly bombarded with popups and ads as I stated.
I called 'max' childish because he didn't answer my question, he just gave a flipant reply. He could have said that accounts cannot be deleted.
There then followed remarks from other members like: 'you retard','quit you belly aching and suck it up'.
I then wrote "The request was for the account to be deleted.I know it might be difficult to understand but me not using the account does not mean that it has been deleted. If you must answer the question - please read it first". This was pointed at the members who wrote the above remarks.
More abuse followed but eventually I received a sensible answer from 'colossus72'
My final remark was to him: " Thank-you for the informative answer to my question.I can only add that I am sorry everyone can't give replies like yours and not stoop to the sort of remarks from previous members".
moshi - If I couldn't handle critisizm, I would have quit theeming long, long ago. I have been a member at cust.org for quite some time and uploaded various themes etc.My only eror,as I see it was to state at the begining of this thread that themes cannot be deleted.I was wrong and I admit it.If accounts cannot be deleted then OK but why not just say that?

I think the "stating that no-one uses DesktopX much anymore" thing is telling. There have been other Stardock 'discussions' at custo, haven't there? Regardless, I remember outraged people coming to skinz three years ago saying the same sorts of things. Custo has its particular 'tone'. They want it that way, or they would do something about it.

I've said it before, but I think it is unreasonable for a site not to let people delete their accounts, or do it for them when requested. You can quit any organization in the real world, renounce your citizenship, etc. I dunno why the vast majority of online communities feel that registration is eternal.
