What .::THEMES::. would you like to see?

Friday, March 14, 2003 by joetheblow | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have seen many requests for a skin or a suite design. Most of the time the question is asked in a way that, to put it mildly, offends the artists who they are asking.

Ex:
Can someone make a Clark Kent theme for me? I have not talent and no time to do it.

Believe it or not, that statement implies that skinning is "easy" for artists or that skinners can do it "in a flash".

If you wonder why people get upset (on both sides) it is usually because of this and the misunderstanding of what is being said by the asker (different cultures ask for things in different ways...)

Skinning takes art, knowledge of programs, and code, plus testing. Many skinners want to produce quality skins, especailly since thier name is going on it. ( I usueally test for 2 weeks and on different OS platforms before release )

I shall restate the example question:

EX:
I would like to know if anybody is making a Clark Kent theme. If not, is there anyone willing to put it in there plans do so?

Also don't get mad if no one answers. It probaly means no one wants to do it. (of which is your answer)

Keep in mind also it takes time to complete such a task.

Don't be scared to make your own!!

If the ability to "fix" skins is implemented, you could do something fantasicly ugly and maybe someone, one day, will fix it to look better. You can also load up your graphical idea here under the area WindowBlinds skin Ideas: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=18&WindowBlinds%20skin%20designs=on

There are other areas as well for graphic uploads that could be used for ideas. (Try not to come up with stuff that would be a copywrite enfringment. No Britney Spears boobs or BeYounce in a skirt)

So, since we are here, what would you like to see? Animals? Cheese, Triangles? Skin based on a car? Insects, Movie? I know newbies must have some requests. I have some too (but I want a crack at making them first )

I would like to see a mountain bike theme. Maybe with Cannondales or Kona bicycle. I think I will have to make that one. On the flipside, I love OS X Aqua themes.

I would like to see....... ehm.... damn...
Sorry, probably I'm just weird, but I can't be happy with a theme that is made by someone else. This is no offence, but when you look to a sweet chrome startmenu, you see some bugs in it, then you think, who cares, I made it and I am proud of it, and it even makes you prouder when you see all those people download it, and give nice comments on it, the non-skinners really should try it, its a good feeling.

Thought I would share my opinion

I still say someone should write a book on "Skinning for Dummies" (like me) who really wants to learn this stuff, but has no idea where to start or what programs to use....this is a skinning site....teach us !!

well, Soon I got a little text file completed, that probably is going to added to the FAQ about skinning windows media player.
But then only the code, and not visual, visual you can learn from tutors.

I actually get more out of being shown something as opposed to reading it.. and it kinda seems like the Tutorial for Logon screens has left out a step or two???

As long as we're making a wish list, I'd like something that's not as dark as a lot of the skin suites. Not so Sci-Fi. Something light, bright, happy. DISNEY! Stop making faces, there's a lot of us Disney freaks around, you just don't know 'cause we look just like you!
So, that's what I'd like, thank you.

Ok Citizen Bradleyko, you have peaked my interest. Now I want to see a dark Luna theme. I would agree with Styl Skinner that you should give yourself a shot at making it yourself.

In any event, I have put it on my list of "to do's" for skinning. Quite frankly I think that is a good idea and I would like to see it done myself.... so I'm gonna give it a try.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't. It will be a wait until I get my new computer and settle in to my new work schedule. And get other stuff out of the way.

Well in short it will be a while before I do it.

My son is heavy into the Nexus-Kingdom of the Winds game. I thought I had seen a theme based on this but can't find it now. He was ecstatic when I told him I saw one. So....I would love to see a Theme based on Nexus. I think you guys do fabulous work, I am totally in awe, and very much a newbie. I hope to some day learn how to do it myself, but my family already thinks that I spend too much time on the computer...

I have quite a few Magic the gathing cards that would be awesome as wallpapers or skins. I think I will track down the authors and ask if I can use the cards illustatons on a wallpaper or skin.

I have a special note to make to the guy who wantted a dark Luna . I moved up the developement date from 9 months from now to 6 months from now.

AND

I will call it Dark LuNA, and make a whole story line about it. I am very excited about the whole deal. I am emailing a couble of people who I want to cast for the images I will use for wallpapers and such (DesktopX, icons, and, of course, the windowblinds )

I already have some images and part of the story line for the mini series.

I think it will be a nice little piece.

see what asking nicely has done? not only do you get a skin, you get a whole story to go with it.

Be polite about it, eh? Try this:

I'm canadian, man, and I would think it would be so sweet to have a wallpaper that showed my patriotism. I know you guys are all really busy, but could you help me out with this?"

Thats how I would ask. I could be wrong in how I do it though. It just seems a little more polite. I think there is one in the wallpaper gallery though. Take another look please.
