Solved with WB 8.13: WindowsBlinds stopped skinning Chrome

Saturday, September 5, 2015 by gevansmd | Discussion: Personal Computing

Chrome froze last night and after a reboot, if I use any skin besides plain Aero, the titlebar is invisible.  Unless an update was installed after the reboot I don't understand how it could have changed.  I now have Chrome on the per app restriction list.  Anyone else see this happen recently?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  Here is the Wb info dump:

Windows 7 Ultimate (7601.win7sp1_gdr.150715-0600)
WindowBlinds 8.06 (029 - Windows 7 Edition) - 64 bit OS

Wblind.dll 2014/07/16 08:42:ll
Wblind64.dll 2014/07/16 08:42:49
Wbsrv.dll 2014/07/16 08:42:48
WB8Config.exe 2015/04/21 11:40:09
Wbload.dll 2014/07/16 08:42:43
Screen.exe 2015/04/01 13:36:08

I guess no one else is seeing this.  I'll try to un/reinstall WB and see what happens.

Reinstalling did not solve the problem.

This has been an issue for many people for a very long time , including myself. I use the Chrome Background Theme application to solve the invisible titlebar issue.     -- Ace --

Can you explain?  You create your own theme that doesn't skin the min/max/close button area?

At the right of the address bar are those 3 little horizontal lines , that is the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button. Click on it. In the drop down menu, select "Settings" then go to "Appearance" and click on the button labeled "Get Themes" A page will open that you can scroll through hundreds of themes that will automatically skin the Titlebar and fix the invisibility problem. When I change my Windowblind theme, I scroll through the Google Chrome themes and try to pick out a theme that will closely match or at least compliment the Windowblinds theme I am currently using.    -- Ace --

Ok, thanks.  Your last sentence actually answered my question.  I'm happy to use a google theme again for now.

Why are you using an old version of WindowBlinds?

Has it not been prompting for an update since about March?

No, I have downloaded other updates but there has been no notice about WB. I manually grabbed 8.23, the latest version on my download list. Do you know if that's the latest?

I believe 8.12 is the latest WindowBlinds version.

If that's what you obtained from your My Downloads page, then yes it's the most recent.

I believe 8.12 is the latest WindowBlinds version.

That's what I see in my list. No 8.23 there for me.

I didn't see any 8.23

Because there is no 8.23, 8.12 is the latest version of Windowblinds.

Hi LightStar, you're a pro-level WindowsBlind skinner.  Do your blinds skin Chrome?  Wb used to work for me and then after a reboot it no longer skins Chrome properly.

I believe it came from the latest build of Chrome. Because before that Chrome was skinned nicely. I posted a screenshot that shows that.
