Windows Defender

So out of curiosity I decided to see if Windows Defender is running on my system. It is not. When trying to start it I get an error message saying it can't be started because Windows is using a different virus scanner. I have no other AntiVirus programs on my computer. It came with McAffee but I remove it. I'm using Windows 8.1. Any ideas, fixes?

You didn't remove McAfee properly. You have to download and use their tool after the uninstall to get a clean uninstall. Try running just the clean up tool first and then reboot but if that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall the trial and do it over, follow the instructions carefully. Go here https://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331 for the details, Terry. and for the link to the tool.
