OSX style wallpaper changer for win xp/2k. does it exist?

Monday, January 13, 2003 by Ryokurin | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I know that most of us here dont know what im talking about so ill try to explain it clearly.

in OSX for the mac there is an option where you can put pictures or wallpapers in a folder and the OS will randomly pick pictures out and post them as wallpaper at preset times or system events. While changing wallpapers it gracefully fades in and out to each one. Also, because it uses OpenGL to do it (I think) there is no noticeable speed hit while doing it. I've seen macs play dvds while the background is steadily changing without any problems.

Now, the question. is there anything out there that is similar for windows? Only thing I've seen thats close is Dremples, but thats an equiv to a lava lamp, and not pictures.

I think there is something called 'Webshots' that will do that. I haven't tried it but from what I've heard it's worth a look.

Windows XP has a "slideshow" option on the screensaver properties, that allows you to designate a folder of your favorite wallpapers to be shown...and you can adjust the timing of it as well.

Yes, but that is a screensaver, not a desktop.

And no, I can't think if such a program. Certainly not one that can fade it.

If thats the 'webshots' that im thinking of its cheesy, a resource hog and all it really does is download a new picture daily. It also hard cuts between images. Im specifically looking for something that morphs, fades or changes gradually into a different wallpaper. I guess its something you have to see to get, very cool looking.

Maybe, this is something that Mr. Frogboy could look at in the future!

Trigger can change wallpapers at preset times (minutes hours days and months) but not fading in and out.
Might be worth a look
