1280x1024 id say is perfect for 19 inch and if you want 1600x1200 id say 21 inch best fits that. I was trying to get 21 inch but it costs £622 for it, as it was only £220 for this 19 inch.
Tho i really had to get this 19 inch as my 17 inch blew up :/

However, I prefer to download wallpapers made at 1024x768 because I have a dial up connection and the marginal improvement in quality for matching image to size to resolution size is minute.

It occurs to me that people here are really going to think me nuts when I say I have a 19 inch and I STILL use 800 x 600 (hehe)

It wasn't very long ago that I switched from 800x600, first to 1024 and then to 1152 where I am now.
I also have a 19" monitor and I like the additional room that the higher resolution gives you.

Ms. X... just try changing your resolution to 1024, one step up from 800...
See the difference it makes, take a few minutes or more to get used to it.
open a few windows, see how much more room you have on the screen.
Just a suggestion of course, it does take a little getting used to, but really not that long.

I'm slowly working my way up,but I don't think I will go any higher than 1280x1024,unless I get a new flat panel the size of my TV!!

1024x768 on 17" monitor...just right for me at home. At work, I use a behemoth 22" monitor with 1280x1024. Too much strain on the old eyes. 
However, our secretary uses a 19" flat panel with something lower than 800x600! It's kind of scary...the icons are huge!

mrbiotech, you stated previously that you use 1280x1024, I always include that resolution in my work.
Which resolution are you referring too? Also, the need to keep zip files small for dial-up connections is a prime concern (not to mention keeping it small for the site itself).

I'm using 1024x768. I'd love to use 1280x1024, but I use a laptop, and I can't get the resolution to go higher without pluging it into another monitor. (Christmas present, maybe?)

Small also tends to mean an easier go on running resources and usable speed, doesn't it.
1280x1024 still looks great, though!

mmmm, 1280x1024 fots we; on a 17 inch and it is the common monitor these days for the price and bang for buck, 19 gives the same at 1600 as 1280 dose on 17. but if you design down it owuld probably be best, Then all you have to do is resize graphics lower and you will not get the nasty jinks in your graphics.

Just fit. No problem to see what´s on the screen. 1600x1200 is to small even for a 19" and properly unhealthy for the eyes. 800x600 to clumbsy and big, there is no working space at that resolution IMHO.
