Ponder and reply...

Has the genre of poetry lost its charm? I searched for 3 days to find the poem I used in 'Kavita', a wallpaper but got no feedback...
I was hoping for a surge of feedback...
Is poetry dead????

...or in a REALLY OLDE ENGLISH Accent.. (original text)

Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halve cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open ye
(So priketh hem Nature in hir corages);
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages,
And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes,
To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes;
And specially from every shires ende
Of Engelond to Caunterbury they wende,
The hooly blisful martir for to seke,
That hem hath holpen whan that they were seeke.

All I have is a crummy Norton Anthology from my U of T days.

I had to take a course in Olde English to learn to read it that way.

To funny.

From "Hair"

- What a Piece of Work is Man

What a piece of work is man
How noble in reason
How infinite in faculties
In form and moving
How express and admirable
In action how like an angel
In apprehension how like a god
The beauty of the world
The paragon of animals

I have of late
But wherefore I know not
Lost all my mirth
This goodly frame
The earth
Seems to me a sterile promontory
This most excellent canopy
The air-- look you!
This brave o'erhanging firmament
This majestical roof
Fretted with golden fire
Why it appears no other thing to me
Than a foul and pestilent congregation
Of vapors

What a piece of work is man
How noble in reason

How dare they try to end this beauty?
How dare they try to end this beauty?

Walking in space
We find the purpose of peace
The beauty of life
You can no longer hide

Our eyes are open
Our eyes are open
Our eyes are open
Our eyes are open
Wide wide wide!

Nice one GoodMorphing. Of course, the original Shakespear is better.

Thanks for the link Divine_Dvd. I have some reading to do.

More prose from yours truly...

Titled, "Last rite"

I tasted her tears on that cold, stone hearth
Streams of pain that once pelted her part of earth
Mirrored tears that sprung from agony’s ample well
On still moist ashes, salty droplets that fell~

There was no mercy in her solemn attempt at belief
Eyes so blurred in her sightless, mindless grief
I can still feel the pulse where she once did mourn
A heart so aching, so stricken and forlorn~

I still hear the echo of her haunting breath
I still hear her pleading to be put to death
Her visage appears as a mist before my eyes
Then vanishes before I’ve had time to realize~

The crystal reflects her but then disappears
Like a star that has died but nobody hears
Whispers for ears she is longing to find
The faintest of thoughts that float in her mind~

Her words pierce my soul as they tear me apart
Mortally wounding my still beating heart.
I am stained in her blood, tainted indeed
Soaked to the skin in the place she did bleed~

My cowardice tries to back me away
So that I can’t see her so lifeless and gray
But her pale body glows like a cruel, cheerless light
As she beckons I read her the very last rite~

And now for a happy tone...

Titled, "Destiny’s embrace"

Swing back and forth so softly,
Then gently hypnotize
Your words that spring to life
before my gazing eyes
A hush is in my spirit
as the pendulum rhythmically swings
Settled in my thoughts of love
and many other things.

Gentle songs they murmur
The expressions of romance
We move a little slower
In passion’s breathless dance.
I feel your electric gaze on me
Like a pleasant little shock
As our souls entwine forever,
Never to unlock.

Your gentle points of truth
Become my heart’s own guide
and break me free from my mind’s shell
In which I try to hide
Your inner light glows brightly
Even from a distant place
And it warms me as it holds me
In destiny’s embrace.

When the tide rushes in
And we fall into embrace
Will the tears still fall
As I caress your sweet face

If I tell you of my love
Will you turn a deaf ear
As I murmur sweet nothings
And call you "my dear"

When the moon shines so brightly
that it makes us all cry
Will you say that you love me
Will you make my breath sigh

As I long for you nightly
All alone in my bed
Will you think of me sweetly
And sing a glad song instead

Titled, "Epiphany"

This is awake and this is asleep
Hard to breathe or to move or to feel,
Caught the dreamer on her feet
Under this spell she is oddly surreal.

Flying, crying, dying to finally see
The outcome of her destiny,
Magic shadows, misty eyed moon
She begins to gently sway and swoon.

Strange lullaby, beckons her to fly
Walking slowly with the stars in her sight,
Bare feet glisten from the dewy grass
She unfolds her wings under the cover of night.

Soaring into the great twinkling sky
Darkness swallows her airborne dance,
Engulfed into the great unknown
She is left to fate and given to chance.

Gracefully landing on her enchanted cloud
She removes her silken, wispy shroud,
She awakens to find all her fears have been shed
Left with an epiphany swirling in her head.
