No Icons on Stacks

Wednesday, March 19, 2014 by rgrounds | Discussion: Docks

OK I have been using KK Menu with OD since it was Shareware. Last week something on my system changed and KKMenu gives me an error about being unable "Could not register window class:Invalid window handle". I reinstalled and the same thing. So I wanna switch over to Stacks.

I have tried Stacks Docklet 1.0 & 2.0 and Stand Alone Stacks. The stacks work in both. But I don't get Icons for the shortcuts in my stacks. I just get a White Document icon or a Windows Exe default icon.

Any ideas here?
Thanks,

Win 7 64bit Pro.

PS:  I really wish Stardock would include something like KKMenu.  I understand the issue with Apple and Stacks, but something like KKMenu has been badly needed. And 3rd parties have been the only ones to chase after this. And those parties are all gone so no more improvements or support.

first of all I would try with a restore point before "something on my system changed" ...

I have tried that. It works for 1 day, then after the next day or restart it quits working again.  I can't keep going back in time just to get my KKMenu to work.  And Stacks is stumping me also. When Stacks first came out I tried it, and it worked fine  I just liked the functionality of KK better at the time. Now neither of them work for me.

When was it last updated ? 2009 ? I would love Stardock to build something like stacks in.

probably the KKMenu and the icons stacks issues have the same reason, what really changed in your system 1 week ago ?

maybe a new application installed or one terrible Windows update > uninstall them then run a registry cleaning application ...

well I hope you don't have in the end to reformat the OS ...

Actually I wanna blame it on a Registry Clean. I just upgraded my TuneUp Utils to the 2014. After it's initial run is when I noticed it. I did a system restore to before that. KK came back working, but after a couple days and a reboot later it quit working again.

As much as I don't wanna start over, I think it is for the best. It has been 4 years since I had a clean system so I think I am gonna upgrade my boot drive to a 1TB Hybrid and start over, and rebuild my set up. Little by little. I will have the old drive for reference and my Stardock stuff is on a completely different HD/Partition so it is more of a matter of reinstalls

I appreciate your help. I think if I can get them both working I am gonna do a combination of KK & Stacks.

What version(s) of stacks are you currently running?

I think I have all 3 I am guessing that 2.0 and StandAlone work the best?

Let me know. Thanks.

well StandaloneStack 2.0.7.0 is the one !

also because it's an .exe and I can customize the icon using AnimatedIcons see here >
