Need Weather Widget Updated to Work

Friday, October 25, 2013 by RedBuzzard | Discussion: OS Customization

I have a Weather Widget that I made for personal use a while back that no longer works. I don't know how to fix it since I'm not to great with scripts. Is there anybody out there that can get it to work for me?? Thanks

there are a few services that provide free, legal to use & open feeds (Accuweather is not one of them btw).

an example would be Yahoo!'s feeds: http://developer.yahoo.com/weather/ . the geocoding has to be done in YQL.

that would still mean you would have to the parsing of the feed with regular expressions and pass over that data to DesktopX. this is not rocket science, but it would require a current DesktopX user that knows how to do this or willing and capable to learn how to do this.

correct it from crashing in Windows 8
That is precisely what DX was supposed to be about. That is, creator/user input. Now that the creators have gone, the users won't be far behind.   I blame FF and Chrome for the oh, oh, oh..... higher number, it HAS to be better....mentality. Most people already know MS doesn't follow that rule. Windows 8,,,,,har-de-har-har.

ain't no rocket scientists in that crowd but they left, just the same. I mourn the loss.

DesktopX being a legacy (retired) app, I'm betting finding that person won't be easy. No interest anymore.

Jim do you know what I need to change in order to abbreviate the weekdays. I am playing with the TN Brat widget and I need to change them from showing the full day (ie: Monday to Mon). Any ideas? Also it's showing US at the end of the Location

Looks to be controlled by the script. I do not know how to alter it. Sorry.

@ Jim I wasn't talking about gmail, but about Google search and Google Chrome results...

Google have send me warning that my site has malware because of my weather gadgets!

I had to delete the direct to the zip file "download link", and replace with a link in a text file inside a zip folder from where the people could download them.

After 10 days, I got a second warning by Google not to use malware links inside the text files for the malware weather gadgets!!!! Can you imagine this?

All of you that you are following this thread, you know about  the retirement of the free weather prognosis service by www.weather.com, and the fact that the most weather gadgets can’t get the weather.com XML Data Feed,

therefore are not working anymore.

I am trying something new, it doesn't have a good service as the weather.com, but it may help some of you.

Trying it now. My location overlaps the current conditions at the bottom. Otherwise working fine on XP. Enter Bloomington, IL as a location to see what I mean.

That's an easy fix, Wiz. Open DX, import the widget, right click the location, properties, summary tab, set witdh to 300. Center. Move the info icon and text down a smidge, save.

Thanks Nikos, we needed a solution, you found it!!!

I guess you should wait to see the updated description of this widget, before you try to download it again, need moderation/approval by WinCustomize
