Rush [the Movie] Go See It

Friday, October 11, 2013 by Jafo | Discussion: Life, the Universe and Everything

Terry and I just saw it today...and it's brilliant....

As some of you might know...both myself and Terry work as Officials in Formula One .... and I started as a Communicator in 1976 ....around the time the movie was set.

I didn't get 'my hands on' [or even see an F1 in the flesh] until 1980 ... but certainly some of the names mentioned were still around then...and the first time I would have met Lauda was in '84 at Calder [in Melbourne].

It's an excellent movie for car fans [and just about anyone else].

Terry was horrified at the poor safety/protection standards back then.....and I just said 'our passes always said on the back..."motor racing is dangerous..."'....

..."motor racing is dangerous..."'....
And it still is today in spite of huge advances in safety equipment and procedures. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to grab it when it comes out on DVD. I haven't been to a movie in decades.

If only...re the first.

No...I've officiated at all of the Australian Grands Prix since 1980...to date....that's 34 years consecutive...and only one of about a half dozen who can lay claim to that.

Re the second...if you mean Stardock...yes...I'm the 'remotest' person on the team...about 10,000 miles from Michigan...

"Edwards had a cameo role in the recently-released movie Rush, playing his father Guy who helped pull Niki Lauda from his burning Ferrari after a crash at a F1 Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in 1976."

Motor racing is dangerous.  Our 'community' feels every loss.

Tomorrow I'm off to Phillip Island for the Aussie MotoGP round.  Over the years I've worked at 3 bike events with fatalities....last one was a bit over a year ago.

Let's hope this one is incident free....
