Whiners, Trolls, Morons....
Saturday, October 5, 2002 by T-Man | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I personally find this behavior very rude and offensive and am getting very sick of it. So I ask all of you to please take more time when responding to such a post and really consider what you are saying. Its ok for people to have a different opinion and express it. Its ok to debate the issues and to try and explain your point of view. But its really not ok to start name calling.
Luckily there hasn't been any real flame wars that have resulted from this. But it doesn't take much. Just try to think about how you would feel if someone called you the name that you are about to call them just because you do not agree with their point of view.
Just excerise a bit more control when responding and do unto others as you wish them to do to you.

If someone doesn't like something and wants a discussion, they should go ahead and say it. No one will be offended by a different opinion. They will receive a civilized and polite respose. We've seen this with a couple of well known people stating they aren't happy and want to leave etc. No one called them names, but instead offered encouragement to stay and talk things through. That is how to do it.
But to simply post something in a fit of anger which is likely to upset or offend a large number of people is unacceptable. Assuming you're not intending introducing moderation for the message board which would prevent these inflammatory posts from being made in the first place, then free speech must be allowed to take its course. If you dish it out, you have to take it. Strange how no one seems to care about the "whiner, troll or moron..." causing offence to the majority with their ill mannered behaviour.
It is always wiser to deal with cause rather than effect. Treat the disease not the symptom and the body will remain healthy. Unfortunately at the moment this site is in need of a few asprin;)

For instance, this 404 people are complaining about. I would suggest to try to make some stats about how many times it occurs and at what time peak hours are. Visitors should be able to keep on skimming this site, they are potential clients, chasing them away is bad policy. Also make announces when there is maintanance to this site. Just a few things. In short, be clear on what can be expected here, and put that on for everybody to read in order you can refer to it. Much easier than always answering the same troubles.

Trolls look for a response. Deny them their masochistic pleasure. (If I misspelled masochism, you would have to beat me, wouldn't you?) Remember that the troll won't read your response, but others will. Heh.

end it quick and hard...put them out of their misery. wipe their post from the boards. do something.
you let them sit you see what happens. the people who would see the rant disappear don't post...fine. but others can't always hold their tongue. sometimes they vent on the people who are verbally assaulting their community. whatever.
you want it stopped, just remove it.
otherwise, you have to "trust" everyone to "do the right thing"...which is a crock and you know it. not everyone sees the "right thing" the way you do.
"you" does not mean anyone specific in my posting...fyi.
