heh... I hear that. When you get older, I think, you can fly on just the memory. You can close your eyes and "hear" good music you really love.

In my case, with grade 10 of the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano,(thanks again Mom and Dad for the lessons 
), I can actually play 'good music I really love.'

Studies show that if you learn to play an instrument when you are very young it "wires" your brain in such a way that your IQ is improved measureably.

Other studies show that if you don't use it, you lose it. They reccomend that even elderly people should continue to learn new things. Some have recommended learning a new language. I don't know why they didn't recommend learning an instrument.

That's how it was for me GM. My parents started me when I was 6 years old. Now it's just a part of me. I never forget. Sometimes I get a little rusty, when I don't practice for a few months, but a couple of days of practice comes right back.
Now, the only thing that is starting to get in the way is a bit of arthritis in the fingers. Luckily, there is good medication for that nowadays.

Na.... I think humans get gyped by separating things into masculine or feminine. I think someone skilled in anything is really awsome. I used to think that one really great thing about the internet was that people could just present with their minds and thoughts and avoid a lot of unfair bias. But everyone always wants to identify a/s/l. I really thought an ambiguous name would solve that, but as WOM pointed out... people are easily identifiable.

There are lots of great male musicians. In fact, WOM, there is a fellow Texan, a huge and extremely talented man who is argueagbly the greatest classical pianist born in the U.S. His name is Van Cliburn.
But, I suppose your are right, if there is some statistic somewhere about male vs. female musicians, I think there probably are more female musicians. But then again, there are probably more females in the world too, so that might account for it.

Yo motion I did say that there are more male that female musicians. Please read it again(THAT should be THAN infront of female). There are more females tham males in the world. Thats been proven. Van Cliburn has a concert hall right here in Ft. Worth. Every year great young musicians compete for the Van Cliburn award. I'am going to have to take my own advise and check my grammer and spelling.

I once, when I was 10, had the priviledge of attending one of Van Cliburn's concerts. My piano teacher at the time insisted that I go. To this day I'm gratefull she did. That concert survives as one of the greatest memories of my youth.

Regretably, one of the few States I haven't been too. That and Hawaii and Alaska. My wife and I plan to go there soon. San Fransico, L.A.
My wife's mother, who now lives in New York State, lived in Carmel CA. for a while. She says it's beautiful. I'd like to see it some day.
