Just as many here have thought.

Windows 8 is like a moped. It might be fun to ride but you wouldn't want your friends to see you on it.
I don't care if it runs like a racehorse if it looks like the south end of a northbound mule. It may be a worthy successor to Win 98 and XP in looks, and outperform Vista but it just isn't a Win 7 killer by any stretch of the imagination.(and no, it's not all about the looks, it's the general " this is where we are going, who cares what the consumer wants or needs....we don't" mindset at MS) and besides that, there just isn't enough value to make an upgrade from Win 7 Ultimate practical.
There was an unprecedented timeframe for consumers to try it out and the massive amount of negative remarks by most who DID "give it a fair shake" wasn't the bleeting of sheep, it was the market roaring.

In this end of the woods there's a term [to describe someone who is ugly] ...."head-butts trams for a hobby".
8 Probably should have gone the naming route like the other comparative mistakes.... Windows Bob...Windows ME .....Windows Vista....and now....it's Windows Camel.
Afterall...a camel is merely a horse....designed by a committee...![]()

I watched that, Kona....it generally explains where MS lost it in an actual design/logic evolution and at the same time alienating a significant majority of its current user base.
Here's a better GUI ....![]()

So from the perspective of appearence/looks of course it´s an Epic fail..............unless you actually think 8 looks Good.
I don’t say that windows8 START is pretty but the rest is pretty much the same unless window frames transparency is missing, bigger window caption borders and the minimal buttons close max min + and Aero is not there. Oh and yeah in terms of skinning the missing start button LOL and Start menu even if this site is about skinning / face it without windowblinds what would windows7 be ?...It’s up to Stardock to make that happen in 8...So you can’t compare it with the skinning ability’s that already exist in win7 you have to compare it without customizations and then the only thing missing is Aero everything else is the same only that you have a colorfull startmenu ( i also ask myself sometimes-who thought of that? since that is actually the ugly part...but you’re not supposed to spend hours watching your startmenu so it’s not that bad )
I’m just a bit disappointed that you don’t understand that comments like that won’t make it any better you keep folks from testing it calling it a fail like Millennium or Vista or a Camel + the Video you posted there, all of that just shows me that you absolutely have no clue what you are talking about sorry and I can´t take you serious.
In the future I will try to avoid topics like this since every comment here only pushes the stupidity in them and keeps folks from actually testing a perfectly fine OS.

What are we going to do now? It is the end of the world as we know it.

Wrong! Windows 8 is faster and more study/reliable. Moreover, there are improvements in file management, the taskmanager... native handling of ISO files. There are others, but you can google those.[
quote who="ARESIV" reply="79" id="3346042"]Last but not least, I will say it again. Touch on a desktop with screen sizes being in excess of 27 inch nowadays makes as much sense as a refrigerator in Antarctic. People are understandable in no mood to polish their monitors every other day.[/quote]
Again, wrong! I do not have a touch screen and I use Win 8 the same way as I did Win 7... with keyboard and mouse. What's more, I lose nothing using Win 8 this way on a desktop. Touch may be useful on a tablet or phone, but I don't think many would [want to] use it on a desktop PC... arm ache.
And you may say that people "correctly" think Win 8 is shitty, but really, judging a truly solid OS solely on its appearance is truly moronic. Win 8 is far more secure and stable under the hood than Win 7 ever was/is. In the 10 months since I began using the beta versions I've not had one single crash, BSOD or freeze-up, etc, in Win 8. I cannot say the same about Win 7 or any previous Windows version.

Speaking of regularly scheduled programming, Channel 7 here in OZ interrupted regular programming for 10 minutes to announce that a racehorse had been retired. Okay, so it won a few races, big deal. We've had far greater contributors to Australia retire [human ones, that is] with far less fanfare, pomp and circumstance than that. It's just a fckn horse for fck sake.

No sht. Not twenty minutes after the bombs went off in Boston, some breathless TV reporter was blathering about the fact that she (we) didn't know when or by whom Obama had been told of the bombing. As if that was somehow important news that we needed to know ASAP. Please, not everything thing is about Obama, even though he believes it himself. Seems most 'journalists' have lost all rational perspective & common sense.

Haven't seen anyone having a go at the OS, just the UI ... if you wish to call people morons because they have an opinion on what's broken and needs fixing, then I think you are more poorer for it.
24hr news cycle, don't you just love it

I didn't call anyone a moron. What I said was that it is moronic to judge, condemn, ridicule Windows 8, a really stable OS, purely on the basis of looks/the UI. I'm not fond of the Metro UI, either, but I see beyond that to use a solid OS that does all I need and much, much more... it is far from broken. The fact I rarely see Metro, like ONLY WHEN I call it up once in a blue moon, tells me that the whining and bitching about it is unnecessary. In fact, much of it is pathetic and childish.....

starkers....spend the time and watch the link in #84. It goes a long way towards explaining why there is a significance in the CORRECT management of a GUI.
It'll also go a little way towards helping you understand both why skinners do what they do...and why Stardock is a commercial success compensating for WHEN MS gets it wrong....![]()
The only 'moron' in this discussion has probably already been sacked from MS. [although chances are there's a tattoo on his forehead which says 'scapegoat' which has yet to get furry]...![]()

As for moronic if it's "only" about the GUI...when the whole rest of the OS is so brille....
Swapping out the Vee Dub motor for an RSR Turbo Porsche engine is all well and good...but if you also have stuck the pedals and steering wheel on the OUTSIDE of the car it's an utter waste of time....![]()

i use Windows 7 without Windowblinds. Works just fine. Looks great.
Ditto Kona but I switched from 7ultimate to 8
Seven Works fine / yes totally agree
Looks great / NO, you can live with it same as you can/could with windows8 but if you ever had a quality skin installed it is very unlikely that you turn back to the standard since it looks cheap.
Just try and install the Diamond skin use it for 2 weeks.

The only blue screens I've had were due to a faulty card reader and the only security issues I've had has been YahooMail getting hacked. Can Windows 8..."The Miracle OS" prevent those from happening?
Add to that the fact that not everyone can afford to build a rig such as yours which based on specs alone, would be faster than most even with XP for an OS. Giving MS the credit for your setup being fast is utterly ridiculous. With a SSD and my well outdated Phenom 9850BE/8GBs DDR2, my rig is still a very solid performer. I don't need thousands of dollars worth of new hardware.....yet and certainly not just to get the most out of the newest operating system.
IMHO, UI or no UI, there isn't/wasn't $40 worth of 'better' in Windows 8 over Windows 7 so I kept what I have and like. If you like it, fine but stop belittling those who don't pee all over themselves at the prospect of upgrading to it. Most of us are fine with waiting to see if MS pulls their collective heads out of their collective orifices with the next OS.
This post was made from an XP box that has NO AV. Sempron 3100+ @1.8 GHz, 1.5 GBs RAM, nVidia FX5200 gfx and was built out of parts from a $20 yardsale eMachine. It has never had a BSOD or a security breach since I put it together, it must be the OS.

@ #99 Wiz, I'm not going to bother with a reply to any of that. None of what you said answers anything I said and.... never mind.
As for belittling anyone... nope, never directly said anything demeaning/derogatory to anyone. However, if the shoe fits... is all I got to say to anyone who thinks I singled them out.

Wincustomize is a site about skinning/changing the way an Os looks.
Win 8 Looks like Sh..
-Whether it´s Faster, more intuitive ot has more/better features I leave to sites such as Swe clockers and similar.
Personally I couldn´t give a... since 7 works perfectly fine both GUI-wise as to regarding Performance.
So from the perspective of appearence/looks of course it´s an Epic fail..............unless you actually think 8 looks Good.
-Sure it´s all a matter of taste, but if you (god forbid) like the way 8 looks I dare to say that in this particular case you officially have BAD taste
