Lite step starting win shell?

Saturday, August 24, 2002 by snarph | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

when ever i try to acess my computer in litestep it fires up win shell instead of file explore. I am running litestep on a win2k system have tried regestry edits sugested in LS install for Win2k. The only thing that i have been able to do so far is to comment out the my computer line so I dont forget and do it again. Any ideas?.

Thanks

Hmmm. Weird. LiteStep has some weird stuff, you know? I can't help you with your problem, since I'm running LS in Win98 and it works like a breeze...except for the systray only showing one icon...

Commenting the My Computer line in the step.rc is a good idea. You can always type up another path instead of the *Popup "My Computer" !DynamicFolder:$drives$ line. Instead, write the full path and see what happens. You could do something like *Popup "My Computer" Folder and build from there, adding the folders manually instead of using the "$drives$" command.

I think that could help you out, but if someone else has a better idea, bring it on. After all, what do I know? I still can't make systray2.dll to work correctly.

Snarph...the problem usually lies with the fact that Explorer.exe [the shell] and Explorer.exe [the file manager] are one and the same. 'Serious' 'STEPpers will tend to shy away from Explorer.exe [the file manager] as well as the shell...and use the likes of PowerDesk...which is a better file manager, anyway.

Not everyone gets that problem in 2K or XP [I never seemed to], but other equally 'experienced' users have been known to.

Just ditch every version of Exploder that you can...your system will thank you for it...

snarph...I may be a long-time user of Powerdesk, as well as LS, and am currently on Pro 5, but I'm sure there's a freeware/shareware version around...seen it on various Mag CD's....and there's other File managing proggies around...duck over to Shell City sometime...
