so with that....
I always ran Litestep... and really liked it... well now I am back wanting to do something but am so confused dont know where to start..
I see litestep has not been updated since say 2009.. am i wrong? if it hasnt.. LOSI-0.4.5 the latest?
What other alternatives does the same thing (free too) that I could use?
I Have a vm running the trail of windows 8 so looking for a shell replacement
let me know what direction to go...
This is what used to run and would love to do it over again into windows 8.. now im not taking credit for that one.. that was someone elses theme that I modified....

just not sure what the latest version is..
where the latest talk is about litestep
so i was wondering if with win7 if there is something better out there?
if you can point me to the latest litestep i will get my laptop on it..

I mucked around with LS on 7 a 'little bit'...but got side-tracked. I'm sure moshi's been at it more than me...

well actually i got it installed and working..
was simple really and im running windows 7 64 bit!!!!!!!!
all i did was.
1. install LOSI-0.4.5.exe to c:\program files\litestep. I had green checks on everything
2. ran it and got errors galore but it ran.
3. downloaded all the missing pieces from the modules downloader
now im working but trying to find a theme to run...
personally this is so confusing and non enjoyable making the windows 7 default perfect...
well im going to screw with my original e-clone modified and see what i can do with it... hah...

so i even installed an older one.. that installed to c:\litestep and it functions great too.. hahhahahahaha...
think 0.24.7????
anyway... what i need to do is figure out the create a theme and convert my e-clone modified to a theme so i can load it!!!!!!!!
anyone want a challenge on converting it?
or anyone got a great link on doing it?

LS on Windows 7 has it's flaws. some of the standard tray icons won't update as they should and some mdi apps would display multiple task tiles (which could actually be welcome for some).
Windows 8 is not that much different from Windows 7. you'd need to do some research on how replacing the shell although the method probably did not change. you might be interested in this:

on that theme: no, you'd have to convert that yourself ... this theme looked already horribly outdated ten years ago. use jDesk, xPopup, xTasks and xTray. then find yourself a VWM module, i suggest rabidVWM. all the rest (shortcuts, system info, wharf) can be done with Rainmeter (i think v.14 is the last version that will also run as LS module).
my suggestion for Windows 8 would not to run LS, but Emerge Desktop http://www.emergedesktop.org/ as it is still under development, for the core elements like desktop, menu, tasks and tray. use the newest Rainmeter as a standalone app for everything else.
(you could even use LS together with elements of ED, as the ED "modules" are EXEs, for the tray for example)

For decades ... yes, decades...I thought one day LS would get past a zero-point release and make it to a ONE-POINT-ZERO ...but it didn't.
The only truth of LS is that it is a perpetual 'in development' and thus is always going to be less than ideal....
