On a mission...send help!

OK here's the deal. I am making animated gifs with a 3d program I own. I wish to convert them into DesktopX objects. Bitstrip will no handle large gif files. I have downloaded Gimp and got the frames of my animation to show up, but copying and pasting 250 bitmap frames or more ,which must be perfectly aligned, is not very practical. Bitstrip is the ultimate setup because it outputs the gif to one strip of frames, but again, it will not handle my larger animations. Are there any alternatives to bitstrip? Is there a way to increase the capabilities of bitstrip? Is there a way to save the frames in gimp or whatever as one long bitmap picture?

I think there's a newer version of bitstrip that will handle larger files...

the bad news is, I don't know where to find it... maybe someone will post a link?
